With ecm it is sometimes hard not to just flame and shed tears of rage, let alone think of logical ways of ‘fixing’ it without just completely removing it. You’re fighting someone in a belt and then in comes a falcon and there is nothing you can do most of the time, other than die. It’s perfectly legitimate but let’s be honest, it’s kinda cheap and boring.

I came along a certain pilot whose name I cannot remember and we were discussing ecm (in a civil manner of course) and some possible fixes. His idea was that you divert capacitor energy to your sensor strength. Basically you would right click your cap and select an option such as boost sensor strength and your sensor strength would be raised (perhaps doubled?) for a certain period of time. This would cost cap and wouldn’t last very long, for sake of argument lets say as long as an eccm.

I think this is a good idea for several reasons:

- It’s nothing major and wouldn’t cripple ecm users, but it would give people a greater chance of avoiding the perma jam
- It forces the player being ecm’d to sacrifice cap, so this isn’t free for the player and he has to make a choice between cap or being able to do anything :D
- It offers a choice other than eccm to be used on your ships. This is especially valuable for frigs because they have so few mid slots the thought of fitting eccm is just a joke

So what do you guys think?

I think this should be in Features and Ideas.

Wouldn't that make cap boosters just have too much benefit?

Perhaps, but I think not. I don't imagine a function such as this would require you to put on a cap booster, but it would definitly give the cap booster another benefit. However I wouldn't rearrange a fit just so i could fit a cap booster to power the sensor boost function.

ECM cannot be balanced as long as it is a binary mechanic.

It will either work, in which case its bullshit and needs to be nerfed, or it wont work in which case it's bullshit and is completely ******* useless and why the hell is it even in the game?

You cannot win with a binary mechanism like ECM currently is.

I think Shepards idea could be something worth looking at, the function of using your capacitor for effects for your ship is a very interesting idea, imagine the potential, and yes cap boosters would be more valuble, but also your capacitor becomes more valuable.....

Lets freethink for a minute. Imagine You are fit like a carrier, ya know all the power relay/recharge mods, to ya know, extended your cap life. And you could use all sorts of crazy effects off your capacitor, warp disupt, web,, all electronic warfare all kinds of stuff, but using these effects nukes your cap bad. Anyway before i go off into wonder land im gonna just say. Its an interesting idea and could be play'd with in many ways that just the ECCM part, but i like it.

bit imba with 2 racial ships not as cap dependent. Minny and caldari fit depending are not nearly as cap dependent as amarr and gallente.

Mix in the ASB's now and even the booster is independent of ship cap to create lots of more armour vs shield rage whine threads if put in place.

Well since amarr and gallente are more cap dependent they usually fit cap boosters when they armor tank, therefore they wouldnt run into any cap issues. If you fit an asb then you wouldnt have room for a cap booster making it actually harder to maintain the sensor boosting, especially if you are being neuted.
