Quick question for level 4's - Maelstrom vs Navy mega

Just a quick question for anyone who may have experience with these two ships. How would these ships compare performance wise in Gallente level 4 missions? (the Mael would be AC fit, Mega rail fit)

Leaning towards the Mael, however i am concerned that it will only out dps the Navy Mega at close ranges (<20km) due to always being in falloff. The plus side however being much better tracking than 425mm rails.

I'm not invested in either at the moment skill wise, just looking for advise before i do (also thinking about ships these may progress too)

So given the choice, which one would you choose for level 4 missioning in Gallente space?

Thanks

Navy Megathron. Also, try 1200mm Arties instead of the AC's. The high paper-dps of autocannons is nice, but in practice it's ****. Imo, the best time to use AC's is in merc missions. Other than that, use something else. In your case, the AC Maelstrom may be better in angel missions also. Or you could switch out to blasters for angels and probably do about as good.

This is only really true for the Maelstrom due to the lack of a falloff bonus.

I'd say both are good but different. I'd play the Maelstrom searching high alpha however due to tracking being worst than with Navy Megathron, missions might as well become longer to complete (Arty's have very low ROF)
Usually lvl4 Maelstroms are 800mm Autos fitted, faction/T2 ammo and have a very decent completion time

On the other side Navy Mega has a very nice tracking bonus (meaning you WIN dps on moving targets) a very decent alpha with rails and highest ROF.
Using blasters means you get a real dps punch but it's quite handy to use because lack of range making missions longer to complete.

For lvl4's and at Tech 1 battleships level both are good but my choice would be Navy Mega, maybe because I really love that ship or maybe because it's a better choice for Gallente space.

Mega would be better for Gallente space because kinetic projectile ammo kinda blows.

Nothing wrong with Phased Plasma, works just fine in gallente space.

Phased plasma is 83% thermal and 17% Kinetic, so naturally it is bad to shoot at kinetic-weak targets (i.e. Guristas). However Gallente is thermal weak so it suits perfectly.

Kinetic-primary (Titanium Sabot) ammunition is projectile weapons' weak spot, true, but Guristas have enough of a thermal weakness that Phased Plasma's raw damage bonus makes up the difference nicely, I've found; a well-fit 1400-arty Mael loaded with standard PP can often alpha a Guristas battleship into armor in one salvo, and one-shot battlecruisers off the field entirely even well beyond optimal range.

That said, I prefer to keep one full set each of arty and autocannons, and switch them out depending on mission targets, with AC's for Angels and Mercenaries. (For Blood Raiders and Sansha, arty with EMP ammo is just about perfect.) Serpentis ships do have a tendency to stand off beyond AC falloff range.
