Are you implying miners don't have a community?

Oh I'm sure y'all talk to each other. About mining ships and crystals and blueprints and the like. I've yet to see a miner save my ass in a hot drop gone wrong... I guess the word I am looking for over community is "camaraderie". Miners have no camaraderie, because they play single player EVE alongside other people instead of creating multi-player interaction through the use of ammunition.

thought the point was you could do what ever.
but what would happen if no one mined?

the range of your dscanner is measured in kilometres. i was scanning deep space for everything within nine kilometres of my ship.

People would continue to reprocess their loot from rats, and life would go on.

But see the problem is not the fact that people mine. Even I mine. I'm currently mining for a Nyx. The problem is those "holier than thou" players who mine exclusively and somehow think they are better people for it. See I can both mine and PvP. The typical carebear, well, he can only mine. Yet somehow he thinks he's an essential non replaceable part of the economy.

Sadly, mining is currently not something that player who intends to actually play the game would like to knowingly commit to. Of course, some seem to find it fun, convenient or what have you. However, there are serious drawbacks of this activity new people should know:

1. Player-to-player intercation is pretty low now when gathering full-blown mining ops just not with bothering since barge rework;
2. Income is really bad in comparision to whatever you can do really; even if you argue that this is ok for activity that does not require much attention, you can just compare this to trading - you always can go afk, you actually have spikes of interesting gameplay from time to time (as long as you into that stuff, but that can be said of almost anything out there), it has much better gain potential;
3. Your skills are very specialized and won't allow you to do anything else without additional training, not even other industrial activity; compare to running missions/incursions that allows translation of your skills (combat ones mostly) into PvP combat activity (lowsec roaming, sow warfare, wormhole life).

Coming to the point of why I made above quotation, regardless of all this we don't have to worry about lack of ore so far. Sure, demand hikes the prices, but then someone will just create another dozen of mining accounts and mirror-box another belt. PLEXing those account leaves you with profit margin that is comparatively low, but multiply that by number of accounts... You got the idea. As an individual that dedicates your time and sole toon to that, it's just not worth the time and often SP.

So, if you are not yet up to industializing game mechanics and metagaming rules, I'd recommend you to leave the idea of mining unless you really want to try. I tried that, had some good times with certain mining community, but my barge and my mining skills are collecting dust for a long time already. Well, barge was sold some time ago, too bad I can't sell those skills Big smile

And OT: Welcome to EVE. My first and foremost recommendation is not to pay attention to bitterness spilled over forums and to endless threads filled with whining and complaining. This will improve your experience that much. Seeking for mech articles and decent reports/tales, however you call them, is, on contrary, advisable, that's pretty much basic instuments and inspiration for your gameplay, respectively. Good luck!

I disagree you can trust some people. I routinely give 10 Million ISK to new players to help them get started. Yes, it's true I could be giving to an alt but that's a chance I'm willing to take.

I just started my 9th Account. If you see me in Rookie Chat, say hi and I'll flip you some ISK...

Hi Mark, welcome to our corner of the universe :)

You'll often see the phrase 'Can I have your Stuff' bandied around, usually as a risible point when someone's posted a message saying that they're unhappy with something.

Or indeed, when someone is actually posting to say they're leaving the game too, but mostly the former Lol
