We are aware of the device's existence and, as always, we look into unique and innovative ways to improve our game. Obviously with something as new as the Oculus Rift, there's not much I can tell you besides "We know about it and people are dreaming up stuff we one day hope can be made a reality."

Occulus Rift and walking in stations? or is that just a dream?

That's the whole point. These smaller and lighter materials are available TODAY, that was already covered in their Kickstarter video.

I seriously doubt this. For me this would be something roughly 136x32x6mm in size, incuding all the ota transmission technology. It would also have to take into account my severe myopia I guess.

I'm very excited about the Oculus. The only question is how I can run multiple accounts at once while wearing the headset. Right now I have 3 monitors going and I highly doubt the OR will be able to imitate that.

There doesn't necessarily have to be some major utilitarian purpose behind it. In fact, if people using it had an advantage then it wouldn't be fair to those that can't afford it or don't want to get it for other reasons because they would be at a disadvantage in gameplay. Basic support for it in the game would be enough for me.

Enough for you and several hundreds if not thousands of EVE players to spend several hundred dollars on a set? Because that's what it would take for CCP to justify spending time and resources developing support for it. That's a lot of work for such a marginal gain for a minority of players.

I wouldn't buy it solely for Eve. Or solely for gaming, for that matter. But whether we get OR support or not depends on two factors. First, how widespread the device becomes and what fraction of Eve subscribers have it, and second, the level of difficulty and time required to integrate it into the game.

Given the top level endorsement, pre-launch interest and continued refinement of the device, I'm inclined to think that you might be underestimating the number of people that will own an Oculus Rift and overestimating the amount of work it would take to integrate it into the game. But I guess it's all speculation for now. We have to wait and see. I'm glad to hear that the devs are keeping an eye on it and thinking ahead.

Maybe left/right eye split, but that would be a real mindfuck even if it works. Better stick to monitors for running multiple accounts.

A statement of awareness from a community representative and a three page thread. Maybe you're being a bit too optimistic.

It will all depends on WHAT gaming experience you want.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. The top-level endorsement I was referring to is big-name people like Gabe Newell and John Carmack getting behind the OR. This shows that it might be the first VR device to breach the mass market. If this happens it's not unreasonable to expect lots of Eve players to buy the thing. There is considerable pre-launch interest from the gaming community, and the best proof of this is the fact that the device received almost 2.5 million dollars in support, while the developers were only asking for 250k.

Hmmm, i'd be tempted to use say a horizontal splitscreen and head tracking to look up and down at each one, but that would slightly defeat the purpose of the encompasing field of view. Dunno it'd be worth trying out in my opinion.
