It's unscripted. I determine my character's destiny, not some game designer in a cubicle at The Company That Shall Remain Nameless But Is a Form of Terrible Winter Weather.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

For me it's not so much what happens but what might happen, or what I could possibly make happen. 99.9% of the time it doesn't, but that remaining .1% is just enough to keep me playing.

For myself, Eve feels like a second life. Job included. The difference is that I am allowed to make mistakes and recover from them at whatever pace I deem is needed instead of what society deems. I make the job what I want it to be, work with a community, gain from others after they've made gains from me.

I get pulled in by the realistic nature of the game. You don't want to lose at all, but if you do, you have to rebuild or go home (in this case, going home would be quitting/restarting somewhere else).

We are recruiting like-minded individuals. PvP in low sec with eyes set to null. Visit our public channel for inquiries, or message me. Looking forward to it. Public Channel: Psycho Tech Pub

I can honestly say that the only reason why I still pay my sub is to keep training.

If this game didn't have the training system it has I would have been gone years ago.

Illusion of freedom and multiple choices.

Also sandbox sci-fi MMORPG with player-driven economy and industry isn't something available elsewhere - unlike dime a dozen elven fantasy themeparks.

Time away from the other half.

That or staring as my shiny ships whilst watching red dwarf /movies on the other monitor and listening to the conversations on teamspeak.

When you pull something off in Eve it is a tale to tell. My co-workers play other MMOs the tales just don't have the backing behind them with their experiences:

Them: "Yeah, we slayed Bob the Builder, and we only wiped four times, our armor repair costs were 100 gold each".

Me: "Ran a day trip for ratting in to a C3 with a couple buddies but we collapsed the hole behind us and found out that another group had come in via a different hole. The hauler got popped before we could stand the tower and we ran for it. They had a bubble on the exit hole we found but I was able to clear it only to end up in the wrong side of null and I had to run a couple camps to get semi safe with only my pod. We are out about 700 mill for the night"

Them "You get your ship back right?"

Me "No, I need to buy all new gear."

Them "What fun it that?"

Some people don't get it.

This message brought to you by Experience(tm). When common sense fails you, experience will come to the rescue. Experience(tm) from the makers of CONCORD.

I would love to articulate why? If I could, perhaps I could explain it to my friends/family. 99% of them don't get the 3 monitor/3 accounts at a time. Although, I'm getting some good nerd-cred this way...

But, I guess I'll give it a try.

A game that:

  • frustrates a noob into making the learning curve a sort of PVE (I almost rage quit 3 times first week)
  • has a meta-game so involved you never are 'not' playing
  • brings back fond memories of playing Elite as a kid (C-64 FTW)

.... plus just about everything said ^.

EvE, it's all about tear managment.
