Other than using 425mm Rail Guns what are some of the better items for this?

I'm not an expert on mineral compression, but I'm under the impression that ammo and turrets are generally the best if you don't have a Rorqual.

Scrapmetal can be used for trit, but you can't make them (loot drop from rats).

No idea what the cost to compress is these days, but it might be worth looking into selling trit and buying scrap.

It's still valid but it also lists some items which are made from bpc's.

I haven't done the "math", yet, but it seems to me that Metal Scraps has a very, very high value density, in terms of trit per m3.

I think these high-slot items were nerfed into mineral compression oblivion: Warp Disruption Field Generator, Jump Portal Generator

Passive targeter compresses pure trit, but it's compression ratio got nerfed to hell.

The great mineral compression nerf.

For any item that requires only minerals to make, i.e. most T1 hulls, modules (and ammo?) and which does not have a "special materials" section on the blueprint for extra minerals, the way T1 Mining Barges do, isn't it just a question of calculating the value density of the item?

For instance, Metal Scrap is 0.01 m3 and worth 3000 ISK on the market. That gives a value density of 300k ISK per m3. Even though you can't build it.

But for those that you can't build, make sure there aren't any extras that are lost 100% at reprocessing (like for Barges) and that the BPO requires nothing but minerals. Once sure of those, calculate value density based on Jita market value. If it's high, you got yourself a compressor, and the only question is what it is that it compresses.

For mineral compression research, I would suggest looking at

http://www.fuzzwork.co.uk/

There is a mineral compression section, might have to scroll right to get to the menu on the side.

If you google ten ton hammer business guides for eve online, that should take you to a list that
includes battlecruiser and battleship care packages, which is really a discussion of mineral
compression as well.

I'm not clear why the Gas Cloud Harvester I seems to get ignored in these discussions. Its not as focused on a single mineral as some other choices, but for total compression of tritanium and pyerite nothing else really comes close.

You might want to consider that it wastes nearly half of the Tritanium and Pyerite using these, as nearly half the material is extra and unrecoverable by reprocessing.

You should look at bombs if you really think this is good. [Hint: it isn't. Extra materials are bad when doing mineral compression.]

Best items are:

425mm Railgun I
Citadel Inferno Torpedo
Antimatter XL
Gamma XL
X-ray XL

The rails, torpedoes and antimatter take care of the low end minerals while the Gamma and X-ray ammo provide high end minerals. There are others (and the fuzzworks link is very useful) but these items offer the best compression rate and amount of minerals once reprocessed.
