Elite, the classic space trading game, is coming back. Oh yes, that Elite, the original and best.

Or so the original author would like... why not chip in and help, only needs 1.25 million quid.

Elite-dangerous

Take a ship and 100 credits to make money legally or illegally - trade, bounty-hunt, pirate, assassinate your way across the galaxy.

This may be epic.

Just seen the story on BBC News, laughed about his description at the start of the interview about begining with little cash and a small ship and working up the ladder.... Reminds me of another game.

Somehow, and it could be that I've become a massive cynic, but this idea is doomed as soon as the next WoW expansion comes out.

Sorry but been through this too many times and too many times have my hopes being knocked down.

Besides, Eve is a damn good game, the Elite sequel would more likely ape EVE than EVE apes Elite.

The main motivation for my chioce in trying EVE (before getting hooked ofc) was playing all the Elite Series Games, First Encounters was the epitome for me.

However, the majority of my interests came about from the Fleur de Lys, Anacondas, Pythons and the risk of witch space.

I'm on the fence, I loved and I mean loved Frontiers and First Encounters, even trying First Encounters on a Pentium 75 back in the day and finding that hitting warp to planet just crashed clean into the side of the planet as the processing speed was too high to plot deceleration.

I'm on the fence...... EVE AND Elite:Dangerous? Time limitations............. DAMNIT

I hope this news will motivate CCP to accually put some effort into developing Eve - Online now they are going to face some direct competition.

Braben's last project (also much heralded by the clueless BBC) turned out to be vapourware;

He's had 20 years to do something with Elite via his gaming company (235 employees);

He doesn't appear to want to put up £1.25m dev costs despite being well able to do that via his company or his personal wealth.

He wants YOU to do that.

This is nothing more than a vanity project and any of you who pony up cash are morons.

Braben has had his day and so has Elite.

I couldn't care if he is the biggest Berkshire hunt on the planet - I would still want to meet him.

If the game turns out to be the biggest Barry White dumped onto the gaming industry, it's no skin off my pea shooter, and would probably only cost me a few ponies to play and then Donald Trump it, if you know what I mean.

Yeah, that is why Star Citizen failed to take off completely....oh wait...

Anyhow, competition will be good for CCP. Otherwise we will get Jita riots all over again when all focus shifts to DUST514 and EVE gets neglected again.

Oh I agree completely. It's just Im not going to get excited until it is released and we can actually see what theyve done with it.

DONE!..

It was trough scanning the net for news of elite that i stumbled across EVE, and not sleeping for two years when i was a teenager says allot about a game...

I will never quit playing EVE i will just begin playing Elite (again) or maybe not, maybe it will suck, don't matter gotta give him credit for trying to launch it...

Some things are just worth fighting for, if that ever could apply to a computer game i couldn't think of any other...

IF, and that's a very big IF, knowing Braben's past promises, I'll definitely play/subscribe/whatever the game model is.

But as others have posted, why is he Kickstarting this? He's got a reasonably successful game company and probably a healthy personal wealth, so why is he letting US risk the money if he's sure it's going to work.

Maybe if he and Chris Roberts teamed up then at least one of the two ideas will actually make it out of the vaporware box !

But honestly the Elite II intro still sends tingles down my spine !

At LAST. I have pledged a measly £20 just on the off chance that this game gets made.

Elite is still one of my favourite games and an MMO version would be right up my street. Lol

If it keeps up at this pace it will get funded. I can't believe people are so willing to throw cash at this when there is so little to sell the project.

Hope the people laying down $200 for the alpha know what an alpha is.

Not many people realize how true this statement is today.
