I'm aware that there are corporations that consist mainly of Russians, which is understandable. They share a culture and language.

I also read a thread a little ways back where the OP was asking if there were any corps targeting females. She was concerned about the constant harassment that female players receive on voice in online games. I read where someone gave her an in game chat channel for women who wanted to find a corp. I can understand why this would be needed and hope she found what she was looking for.

I am wondering if there are any corporations created for "People of Color".

The reason being is because we have to deal with an unfortunate side of online gaming that many wouldn't understand. This is not a cry for pity, but the facts are facts. We are constantly subjected to hearing racial epithets, slurs and stereotypes being hurled around on TS, Fleet Voice, etc. I've even seen some corporations with blatantly racially insensitive names. Many of us got tired of it in WoW for instance and made our own Guild, which was very successful. any of us just outgrew WoW.

Thread may get locked as this is a sensitive issue, but I don't know how else to get this information. This isn't in any way insulting other ethnicities. It's simply acknowledging a reality that exists when anonymity is a factor (look at Youtube video comments for example).

I'm not racist. I simply don't feel like dealing with the crap and given how I don't hear about any big corps/alliances having a zero tolerance policy for this sort of behavior on voice, and given that many will even tell me to get over it, just don't use voice, blah blah (easy for you to say. You don't have to worry about it) I decided to look for a corp/alliance that may exist so that we too can enjoy this game without having to deal with some drunk guys racial tourettes.

I understand that even many of the ISDs have no clue what this is like, and simply lock the thread due to it being about ethnicity but again, this isn't meant to insult anyone. I tried to make this thread as PC as possible. If it gets locked, just mail me the info if you have it.

Any corp who has decent leadership who wont put-up with intolerant BS. You likely wont find an alliance due to sheer diversity. Yet I'm sure there are plenty of corps filled with old people who don't have the time or energy to put up with peoples "just for fun" racist remarks.

Well I mean being White doesn't necessarily exempt you from the idiocy. Like the women for instance, or if they have an accent.

However this is an issue for me and I'd Rather avoid it if possible. Not that I'm thin skinned. I play this game to ESCAPE real life...you know?

If that's the case then all is well. I'm new here, but I'm certainly not new to OL gaming or the issue within the MMORPG universe.

As a gay player I really get where you are coming from. It took me a few tries to find a corporation with a culture that suited me. A corporation that didn't condone behavior that made it more difficult for me to feel a part of the group and not an outsider. I'm happy I found one where not only was I comfortable but in fact became comfortable enough to got my BF to join. He didn't like Eve :(

I'd say you could Google around but even if there isn't an official corporation that suits your desires for a welcoming environment I am sure you will find one eventually. Just a matter of finding the right group of mature people who are here to play internet spaceships and not be all judgmental.

There have been 5 I think females who came on voice in the time I have spent in EVE.

Nobody said anything to them that could be seen as harassing or in any way sexist. They knew what EVE was like, they didn't want special treatment. For women who do, I don't know. Same for ethnicity. Does being Hispanic make EVE different?

Language is a barrier. If I can't speak french or Russian, It will be hard to be MMO about the game when everyone else is speaking it. Beyond language, it's not about barrier, it's about attention.

You probably come from a background where you fortunately do not have to worry about things like this. I expected this sort of response from some, so I'm not angered by it. You are entitled to your opinion.

Your Avatar is clearly white....why would you be worried about being a different color?

And I should note, Ethnic corps generally form due to language limitations, not race.....Oops

Suggest you either create one yourself or see if someone who reads this sends you a shout. I know of no such Corporation myself, (not specifically, or with any degree of certainty anyway), or any such Alliance aside from E-Uni, which I believe has a zero tolerance policy on this sort of thing. RvB might as well.

There is something good about them at least. For all the things I disagreed with when I took my turn at E-Uni for a short time, I have no recollection of that sort of thing. Being a similar sort of Player organization, I assume RvB has similar policies and expectations.

You may want to consider joining them just for the sake of finding other individuals who have a similar lack of appreciation for that sort of thing. I know many claim it is in jest, but it is generally no less offensive for it, and almost equally tiresome.

..and yet, I have had the experience of but one or two females present in voice in EVE, and in both cases, they were regularly treated poorly or in a questionable manner by other Corp mates. As much as they stated they didn't mind, and it was clearly stated that such behaviour was not to be tolerated, it continued until they left. It was mild in comparison to some, but still present nonetheless.

Hi,

Look - I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to grasp at here with relation to ISD, but ethnicity is not and will never be a reason for ISD to take an action.

As an individual I might suggest that your comment that "many of the ISDs have no clue what this is like" is only exacerbating the problem, as you've just made the presumption that we're not racially/culturally/ethnically aware either.
I will not enter into a conversation about this, but I will say that this is a real life situation that has affected me personally and that I do have a very clear clue.

In regards this thread and this forum, we welcome any debate that doesn't break the rules. The rules and my team are blind to questions of anything other then 'did this post break the rules'.

If you see any discriminatory behaviour, I urge you to report/petition it and we will action it as soon as is possible to do so.

So you are a black man playing EVE.

I will say it again. How does that change EVE? If you have baggage, it's yours not mine. Keep it out of the game, you might find others do too. Be assured, I'm not a white female with flaming red hair. You play an Avatar.

I can't report what I hear on TS, and even if I could I wouldn't. I do not believe in forcing people to be tolerant because it can't be done. If they want their corp to have that sort of environment, so be it. I'm just going to move on and find a good place for me.

I do apologize if you took offense to what I said. It wasn't intentional.
