Have I just lost a ship?

I was ratting just before down time and it got to within 1 minute of shutdown. The spawn I was on wasn't finished but I figured I'd best get out.

So I hit warp to safe spot and just at that moment my ship gets caught on one of those invisible asteroid collision boxes. No matter what I did I couldn't get off of it and I couldn't warp! In the mean-time my velocity has approached zero, my shields are down to half and I'm 10 seconds from cluster shut down.

This is basically how I had to leave it when the cluster shut down.

Will my ship have warped off as per normal once I logged? Will the cluster shutdown simply have reset all the rats? Or will my ship just sit there, stuck on a roid while it gets blasted by a bunch of npcs?

Quite annoyed right now...

So you completely ignored the 'get some where safe' warning that comes with down time and so now your annoyed?

Lol

odds are you're not going to out run a nuke, may as well finish that ciggy.

I didn't ignore it. 60 seconds should be plenty of time to warp off but getting stuck on an invisible asteroid isn't something I plan for.

TBH, even if shutdown hadn't been happening I'm not sure what I'd have done since it appeared I was completely stuck in space. I rely on a speed tank and so I'd have probably died if not for the shutdown. Ho hum, we live and learn.

EDIT: Sorry to disappoint you but my ship was fine Lol Thanks for the moral support Blink

Glad to hear your ship made it out safe.

In future though you might want to make sure you're starting to leave the belts earlier than the one minuet mark.
Also always make sure your align point doesn't take your towards an asteroid to avoid the clipping it.

If you tried to warp less than 1 minute before shutdown and you weren't near any asteroids, then it's possible that rather than an invisible hit box, your ship was simply unable to warp due to the shutdown. EVE is big, and it doesn't all shutdown at the same time. Because of this, odd anomalies sometimes happen in the last few seconds. Take my advice and any time you're in a situation requiring constant pilot attention, get yourself stable before it runs down to 1-2 minutes. I only keep my ships in missions to the last second when they aren't hitting me very hard anyway, but I usually still warp them off, just to make it easier for the server to shutdown.

FT Diomedes: "Reaver, sometimes I wonder what you are thinking when you sit down to post."

Frostys Virpio: "We have to give it to him that he does put more effort than the vast majority in his idea but damn does it sometime come out of nowhere."

As long as you were not tackled your ship still does emergency warp, if you were tackled then it's another story and chances are 50/50

EDIT: glad you got out safely

Thanks, I'll consider myself fortunate this time.

15 minutes seems excessive but I'll aim to be out in 5 next time round Shocked

You know.. if the server goes down it really does not matter what your situation is vis-a-vis the npc's. The second the cluster shuts down so do the npc's, they don't magically continue to pound the **** out of you.

The tricky part might be when you log in after the cluster comes up. The rats might have been reset and when you warp back in the middle of them the worst case scenario is your ship goes boom.

Actually, I warped straight back to the same spot and got stuck on the same chuffing asteroid but the rats were gone so I had plenty of time to wriggle off of it.

In a funny kind of way, the server shutdown may have actually saved my ship.

It absolutely saved your ship.

If the rats had been there after reboot you still would have the "oops I'm warped to the wrong place" rats engagement timer to work with.

Stuck on roid - turn completely away from it, move some, then right angle. Trying to "slide" over it will get you killed for sure.

Had this happen to me early on in a 0.4 system when I was only 1 month out of the box rats were coming and a pirate showed up, I unplugged the computer saying oh well, to my surprise I was still in my ship, but that was almost 3 yrs ago, mechanics have changed.

Not everyone in Eve is a d-bag. Thanks for reminding us that there is still at least one. I was starting to worry.
