SF = Special Forces not overall army.

US army does not = Green Berrets.

German army does not = Spetsnaz.

Australian army does not = SAS.
I was under the impression that the SAS was the Special Air Services and was a British outfit.

Also the Spetsnaz are Russian...

SAS is also the name of the Australian special forces. And I think it's also Special Air Services as well.

As for Spetsnaz, my bad.

Wow....look at what happened to this pos thread while on the way home from work. Where to start?
  • the AK-47 wasn't ever a superior machine. What was special was how cheap and easy it was to manufacture
  • the same thing made the Sherman great. Sure it took three of them to take out one (obviously superior) Panzer, two of which where obliterated during the maneuver, but the US pumped out
  • No one mentioned oil...Texan oil...mixed with African oil...thanks Brits/Aussies. On that note what about the Pacific...all America
  • I won't even try to argue against how bad the m16 sucks or that America & USSR stole ALL the best post war tech from the Germans. Turns out we didn't get it all...but if you awesome (and I really mean that) bastards (that too) ever start a third we'll clean you right,out of scientists

    A lot of it is referenced, by the way, HORRIBLY referenced with facts. Those darned facts! But just in case you haven't, you might want to check them.

    FYI, I don't care what American rifle you personally like, it's smaller, compact European gear like the P90 and H&K SMGs that outperform all of it at the end of the day. The M16 was always a joke, the M4 is such a clout to maintain and that's why the US is replacing them both with the SCAR series (which incorporates a LOT of stuff coming outta Eurotech).

    I'm Australian, so I have no personal bias here - we don't make ****, we just take what already exists and make it better. But if there's one thing we do know, it's quality over quantity, which is why we use the F88 Steyr as our primary AR and not the M16 or M4.

    Don't underestimate us, world power or not, we still frequently beat the US military in war games using superior tactics and strategies, and we still train US fighter pilots and marines, and we still aren't hated by the rest of the world. And don't forget... the bigger they are, the harder they fall.

    I wonder how many have truly traveled and live abroad and run their mouths amok, there are things I love in many other parts of the world and one thing in my travels I've learned is there is absolutely no shortage of idiots speaking every language in the world. When and if a worldwide disaster rocks the world we will most likely have to pull together to survive simply as chimpmanity. Big smile

    • The reason this thread derailed is that the derailment actually meant some occasionally intelligent posts... although not many even then but a darn sight more intelligent then the OP.

    No idea about the .338. I'd bet that it would be like getting hit by a truck if it did.

    If you are getting shot at by a .50 though you better hope that they are way off, because just the compression of the round going passed you is enough to rip flesh off. If you are hit by it you turn into pink mist on the wind.

    Australian SAS is second only in capabilities to the Germans at this stage. Even the British SAS has lost its edge these days. A lot of US Marines get specialised tactical training from Australian SAS units. We act as aggressors that they have to defeat in certain combat situations.

    FYI, there was a comment earlier about US-supplied F/A18s...

    I remember not too long ago we were still using F-111s that we'd upgraded throughout the years to be more than 125% effective than when they were first introduced. We used them on exercise to "bomb" (simulated only) a contingent of US AEGIS destroyers and frigates in the Coral Sea. The US sent F-22s to stop them, but they failed. How, you ask?

    Because we sent the F-111s in at low altitude and F/A-18Cs at high packed with air-to-air - the F-22s beat the F/A-18s ("losing" two 22s in the process) only to discover that none of them had been loaded with air-to-ground. Less than 20 seconds after this realisation was made, our "Pigs" were hitting the US fleet.
