What happened to CCP saying they were going to monitor prices of Plexes?

They have tripled in price if memory serves me right. CCP said when Plexes were first introduced they would monitor them and make changes when needed. When exactly is that? What is the threshold? Please look into this for us.

How do you know they haven't?

How do you know that the price couldn't actually have gone higher?

Or maybe CCP is jacking the prices up to make it more lucrative for people to buy plex in the first place....?

High PLEX prices aren't really a good thing for CCP - higher prices may make things more lucrative for the seller, but high prices also encourage buyers to just pay cash instead of paying with isk, losing CCP a potential $5 for each person that switches back to paying with real money.

Take a look every time prices spike, especially after T5 cashouts - usually followed quickly by a PLEX sale to keep supply high and at least attempt to lower the price. That's not just a happy coincidence.

I would assume that they are monitoring the prices, that changes are not needed, and they will not reveal what the threshold is.

It's safer to say that high PLEX prices are a mixed blessing for CCP, but overall they're probably happier to see PLEX prices a little too high than they are to see them too low.

CCP would intervene if higher plex price cause money loss to them. As long as players are willing to buy PLEX and number of buyers is greater than number of players who left the game cause of high PLEX value, they have nothing to worry about.

Honestly who buys PLEX for ISK? Players who spend lot of time in game making ISK. If someone has daily habit to mine couple of hours, he will be angry if PLEX prices get higher, but at the end he will accept it as it is much easier than to change its daily habits.

It is us who cause PLEX prices to rise. If you want to lower its price, stop buying it.

Forget numbers, play with ideas, look for solutions.

You hit the nail on the head my friend...

PLEX prices will continue to rise if people are still willing to buy them at those prices...it's simple economics......

Inflation is a normal market process, and its going on. When the times come PLEX 'll go down.
The real question is when it 'll happen? Why CCP doesn't deal with inflation?
Its not so hard, you just need to reduce ISK-income from missions, bounty etc. No, not remove it. Substitute bounty with other goods like modules.
Etc. lets remember NPC-drones. One time CCP have substitute alloys with bounty. Oke, no more minerals, good for miners. But new bounty cause inflation boost coz its new ISK-income conduit.

Let the butthurt flow through you...

I hate to say it but I believe plex prices have been the biggest deterrent to RMT as of late. I hope CCP doubles their efforts though because I don't not see Eve staying away from FTP forever. My guess is Eve will be FTP within 2 to 4 years once WIS kinda stuff gives CCP new cash flow and more customers. Even less if Dust is a hit. (BTW loving it!) I wonder how far behind WOD is behind the eight ball. Three to five years now?

Supply and demand. The higher the price of plex goes, the more lucrative it is for people to buy them. The more lucrative it is to buy them, i.e. the more isk you get for your money, it's more likely that supply will increase to at least meet demand, if not depress prices. The other day plex prices dropped by 21m. I know because I was looking at buying a plex for 600m the night before, held ff and then bought one at 579m.

How the hell do you know? Since they've been floating about the 600M ISK point for some time, I would imagine it is working out just fine for CCP.

PLEX are just as much reliant on people willing to buy them in-game. If temporary spikes like say, FW farming, shoot prices up too high, they'll make sure they come back down "to Earth" with sales and the like. What the acceptable number is, who knows, I doubt it's a static thing.

Not that it's terribly relevant - my post was in response to someone saying CCP was artificially inflating the price of PLEX, when it's far better for them to let things change organically and only use sales etc to bring prices down when things aren't normal (like FW farming).

Surely high PLEX prices are a good indicator that people are willing to buy them in-game? If they weren't the price would fall fairly quickly.

Sure, but if they're buying them with a source of income that's going to vanish soon (FW Farming), it's in their interest to not let the price get too out of control lest they discourage anyone who isn't taking advantage of FW from buying game time with PLEX (which is extra money for them), or set false expectations for anyone who decides to sell PLEX. Stability is really important to the whole thing.

That said, during "normal" times when income streams are more or less where they should be, it's totally in their interest to let the price do its own thing.
