Looking for a large and sociable corp (wall of text inside).

Hello there!

I am an EVE player who has been playing the game since 2010. I'm a good theorycrafter, but unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to test my piloting skills in low/null-sec PVP (yet).

I'm having trouble finding a corp that would accept me since I have a family I'd like to be available for while I'm playing, and thus don't want to buy a headset and use TeamSpeak (or whatever those things are called). This has unfortunately been a common problem for me in any MMO I have played. It's a shame, because I have always enjoyed a good chat in different in-game chat channels, so also in this game. Helping out newbies with fittings and such in the starter corp chat is very rewarding to me, in fact all general discussions concerning anything New Eden has to offer interest me. Many new players have thanked me for being a helpful and available resource for them. I consider this one of my greater strengths both as a person and as a player - I am forthcoming and easy to reach.

Another common problem for me, is that most "serious" corps have a very demanding agenda requiring you to play a certain way - the way that the great leader sees fit. With it comes a fat manual of instructions and tutorials telling you how to play the game. I really don't want that. I'm an intellectual adult that have the mental capability to find out about all the basic stuff by myself by reading whatever information available on the Internet (like reading EVE wikies, studying loadouts at the Battleclinic, etc.). I'd like to read about this when I feel I have the need for it. And that is what I want in a corp too - that they can help me out when I need it, not when the leaders demands me to do so. Why is it so rare to find corporations/guilds/clans that actually trust their members to do things that are beneficial for the very organization they are a member of? It's a pity really, because I see myself as an eager learner, but I don't want to be matriculated in a generic program meant for people who are either too stupid or too lazy to bother to figure out things on their own initiative. Just trust me, will ya? I want the best for all of us. Smile

I have been in a few corporations before, but they have all been fairly small. The problem with these is that for the most part nothing happens. It is hard to get someone to fleet with as there are few online at the same time, and for the same reasons, the corporation chat is usually completely dead. That's why I have rolled new characters on several occasions - to get back to the more lively starter corp. This is the main reason I want to be invited to join a large corporation with many members. I want to be able to log on to the game after work, in the middle of the night, in the morning or whatever, and be able to interact with my corpmates. If every little "happening" requires people to agree upon day, time and place (larger and more important battles/meetings obviously need some kind of organization, I fully endorse that of course), it's just not worth it.

A short summary of what I'm looking for, will thus be something like this:

- A reasonably large corp (at least more than 100 members, preferably several hundred members)
- You don't require me to use voice communication.
- Generally sociable environment.
- An organization that is not top heavy with too many instructions and obligatory activities imposed on their members.

I've looked around a bit, and the only corporation that looks interesting so far is GoonWaffe... hopefully there are more out there.

Before I finish off my wall of text, some basic information about me:

- 31 year old male from Norway
- Married and with full time job
- 7 years university degree.

I hope all this information can help me find the "corporation of my dreams". Lol

Best regards
Ginger Achura

Ginger, I have been a recruiter for much of my EVE time, so I figured I would write a quick response to your well thought out post:

Some corps require comms all the time, but all will require comms at least during fleets. You will not likely find an exception to that as it's hard enough sometimes to communicate during chaotic PVP even via voice, and it would be virtually impossible to communicate using chat. It just moves way too fast.

As far as loadouts and such, any serious PVP corp or alliance is going to have fittings that everyone in the fleet needs to conform to. A Fleet Commander needs to know how to manage and defend the ships he's providing direction to. if everyone is flying their own brand of ship and fits, then it's going to be impossible to know the strengths and weaknesses of that fleet. Some corps will do occasional "kitchen sink" fleets, but they're usually just when everyone wants to have fun and burn off steam.

Oh, and unless you belong to the Something Awful forums (I've personally been a member since 2004 but I'm not active there) you can't join GoonWaffe. Anyone who says you can is trying to scam you Big smile

I've been looking for the right corp on EVE since starting in 2010 as well, so I know how you feel. I also have not really found the right place for me.

Confirming all of that. My corp is an age 30+ laid back group but we do have comms that you need to be on for fleets at the very least and doctrines you need to fly (at least if you want to be reimbursed Lol ). I can't imagine a sizeable corp where you wouldn't need to be on comms every now and again. I have an extremely large family including lots of little kids but I still try to be on comms when I can and always during fleets.

Thanks for the replies both of you. Smile

I'll just stick with School of applied knowledge then. It was worth a shot.

I had never gamed with a headset before really, and learned quick it is required in 99% of Eve corps. I really enjoy the social part of it and honestly some days I just log in to say hey on comms even if I dont got much time to play. A lot of corps will be ok with you at least listening to comms, so you could just put one ear bud in your ear during fleet battles and at least be able to listen. Ive known several to be like that.

I appreciate your input, Casirio, but voice communication is out of the question for me. I'm a gamer that sits in front of the computer for several hours a day, and if I was to shut out my wife by talking to "strangers on the net" in addition to that, she would probably divorce me. Lol

It's not something that I want myself either, as I prefer to be playing computer games and take part in the daily household life at the same time. It has worked for be up until now, and it certainly will in the future too. Blink I opened this thread just in case there were some corp out there that had players who were more like me (well I know there are, but those are too small for my liking).

Again, I'd like to thank all of you for informative and positive replies.

Hey I hear you, just ask around, or better yet, start your own corp. There's bound to be one with people who have similar situations. Good luck o7
