First Starting

Hi guys just starting my play through Eve and going to record my journey if you would like you can watch it here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qwOBxbXuog&feature=plcp

I never recorded the character creation because i felt that has been over done and i had already finished the tutorial
which i felt would have been just frustrating to watch lol. So i've started part way through the epic arc quest.

1 Month

I've gone through quite a bit so far and have joined a corp and even am in factrion warfare now(havent done pvp yet
but soon i hope) My latest video where I join my corp mates in a lvl 4 mission can be seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxUXdU10-UM

First Attempt of PVP

My first attempt at PVP, I didn't do a whole lot but I finally got myself out there https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROyzxjWJkoc

Second Attempt at PVP

So this time another player and I tried low sec out and actually managed to get a kill (even though we got killed shortly after ourselves) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSQu1wmylUY

5 MILLION SP!!!

To break up the stagnant mission running I try something new. Solo PVP salvaging Big smilehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwTNjMl6eL0

Scanning

Finally give scanning a go......GAH it's frustrating http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LY4XPLRu-is

Comments after I watched video:

* Catalyst isn't a drone boat (none of the current destroyers are). In the upcoming expansion there will be a new drone destroyer. By the end of the arc you want to be in a cruiser, but for most of the arc that is overkill. The Vexor is a nice drone cruiser [I use the Navy version of it, but that will likely be out of your price range for some time.]

* Scamming and buddy offers is a no-no (as far as I know). Petition if you get scammed this way.

* From 0 to optimal you don't miss because of range (you can still miss because of tracking). As you go past optimal, you miss more and do less damage because of range. At optimal + falloff you do about 40% DPS; this is considered your max useful range. Past optimal + 2x falloff you won't hit at all. Ammo will affect tracking and optimal (some T2 ammo affects falloff).

I recommend no further than optimal + 1/2 falloff (about 80% DPS), which leaves room for manoeuvring. Of course being closer to optimal is better, but then being closer means tracking becomes more of an issue (and there are tracking enhancement modules).

What's a goon? Is it just a term for a scammer?

Pretty much P

They are a big faction of players in EVE Online who are either ruining or saving the game depending on who you ask. Their recruitments outside of the SA forums are always scams.

Yeah I guess the first one that comes to mind in the tutorial was they ask you to fit something to your ship so i'd look in my hold and

nothing was there (this rarely happened but still very confusing) so when i would ask the rookie help they would tell i had to buy

one on the market and at this point i never even knew where the market was. That one had me stumped for a bit at the start

I just watched part 4. Very well done vids. I like how you are explaining everything - some of the things you get into are even fairly advanced for someone who is still on his trial. I wasn't able to explain what signature resulution or magnetometric sensor strength do at that point. Far away from it, actually :D

Kudos. I can only recommend these vids to other people who are looking to start into the game.

I had to smile when you started looking at the Info tab on various other ships you encountered. I did that a lot as well during my first travels, trying to figure out what the hell those fancy T2 ships do.

Brings back memories. I am about three months ahead of you time-wise but learned some new things from watching your videos. Half way through video 4 now. Hope you stick with Eve as you seem generally curious. If you want to read a bit more about life in New Eden check out the link to my blog in my sig. I am not as technical as you and it's a blog and not cool video but it starts just before life as a capsuleer skipping the orientation and the epic arc mostly and diving into what I decided to do once the training wheels were off.

You should think about Eve University as a corporation as you can learn a lot about a lot of different paths as you seem want to do. Good luck and just ask the community or me if you have a question or feel suck.

What a surprise, yet another Eve blog http://capsuleerconfessions.blogspot.com

Comments on part 5:

* I smiled when you mentioned some of my previously posted comments Big smile

* 29 jumps - A large number like that sometimes means you had the opportunity to go through lowsec, where it might have been say a more direct 3 jumps, but of course much riskier! You would have to change your autopilot settings (F10) to generate a route through lowsec ("prefer shorter" and reduce the security penalty slider). Of course, one would never use autopilot to fly the route, just to plot it!

* hisec is 0.5 sec to 1.0 sec, and patrolled by CONCORD, which provides consequences but no real protection. You should expect to lose your ship the moment you jump into lowsec, though it is possible to travel many tens of jumps without opposition. You probably want to stick to hisec until you are ready for some PvP action.

* Goonswarm recruitment scam is more of an IQ test than a scam. Countless people have failed it.

* Freighters are tech 1 and the largest capacity haulers. Deep Space Transports (sturdy haulers), Blockade Runners (small capacity, but fast, agile, and covert haulers), and jump freighters (smaller capacity freighters with jump drives, so they can travel vast distances without using gates) are tech 2.

* The missing "thing" = your heads-up display or HUD. It is movable, and scalable.

* Whenever you mess-up something badly in the UI, you can reset it: press ESC and go to the Reset Settings tab, and pick what you want to reset. Helps to save overview customizations once in a while, just in case you need to restore them later.

* Everything on the market is "new". Stuff in contracts can be in any condition, as well some items can only be sold via contracts. Always read contracts carefully, as many can be scams to catch the unwary.

* You may find that long range weapons (for hybrids that's railguns + longer range ammo) are easier with NPC, at least until your skills are higher. That way you can stay out of their range (you can hit them, but they can't hit you). The other method is to get in their face with short range weapons (for hybrids that's blasters) and melt their face before they do the same to you.

* Never underestimate the usefulness of drones, even a single drone can be a big help (trivia: all rookie ships can use at least one drone).

* You will want a cruiser to deal with Dagan, and possibly a friend. He has a lot or rep, but limited cap that can be worn down if you can survive long enough.

Hey thanks for the feed back guys, any tips you can give me I can use because I'm stuck on the mission to kill dagan so while I skill up I may try my hand in mining and manufacturing. I'm pretty sure I won't make any money but I'll find out if I like it

I had to actually get some help with that mission as my Rifter couldn't break through his active repair. If you need a hand I would be happy to pass along the help but my client is not loading at the moment so I am waiting for CCP devs to show me some love and get back to me on my petition. I hope it's soon as my skill training us up later today.
