Question about storyline mission

I'm familiar with the concept of receiving "important storyline" missions after every 16 normal missions, which give faction standing increases. Whenever I'm granted an important storyline mission, the agent in question will appear in the list when I dock at a station, and I'll receive a game mail titled "I am in need of your services, Holland Manners, for a very special mission."

Today, I received the usual mail, but this time the agent offered me a 10 part mission "Kidnappers Strike". I did the first part of the mission and didn't receive any faction gain.

What is the trigger for receiving multi-party storyline missions? Is there anything special about them? Do they have anything to do with the "important" faction gain missions which arrive every 16 missions? Is there any reason to bother doing them? This particular one involves a few courier missions, so I'd rather just carry on with my usual security missions if it isn't going to gain me anything.

Thanks.

I can't give you any facts, but based on my experience of doing way too many missions, epic arcs, and storylines, I can only tell you this much:

Yes, do all 10 missions, it will probably be very much worth your time.

You'll probably gain a huge boost to your faction standings after you complete the entire storyline, which means after the 10th mission.

As best I know, there is no specific trigger for receiving multi-part storyline missions (or, for that matter, receiving multi-part normal missions).

Storyline missions are pulled from a pool of possible storyline missions. Some of them happen to be more along the lines of storyline arcs. These arcs tend to have much larger rewards than typical storyline missions because of their complexity.

For nearly all multi-part missions, the final mission is the one that gives the largest reward in standing.

^ This.

Also in the mission briefing window, right site on the top it will tell you if a mission is giving you faction standing or not.

Great, thanks for the replies. I very nearly declined part 2 (I actually had my mouse over the decline button), glad I didn't. I'll go ahead and complete the remaining 9 parts.
