I am in the tutorial part of probe scanning, launched four probes, spread them out, set them to max range, and found a bunch of results all good so far. Now here is where I am having trouble, I watched youtube videos, read the tutorial, asked for help in the rookie chat, and every single one of them states when I click on a result as in one single result, a "red aura" or a red dot should appear. I get nothing, I tried zooming in and out, selecting individual probes, selecting all the probes, tried reducing the scan radius to see if I can find it better, still nothing... Is there something I am doing wrong? is it a bug? or am I just color blind and can't see red.

Check your filters in the scan window. By default they are set to exclude sites for some reason, when you want them set to show anomalies.

Maybe the Red sphere is almost perfectly overlapping the scan probe's own sphere? It's also possible that the sphere is so small that you can't see it unless you zoom in a LOT

When you get results, one or more of the spheres from your probes should light up red. That means the site is somewhere inside that sphere. That's when you start moving other probes in, making them overlap to cover the area that sphere was in. If you see a red ring where two probe scans intersect, the site is somewhere in that area (the overlap). Reduce your scan radius, move your probes to cover that area. You should start getting actual icons (red for weak signals, yellow for stronger, and green for a confirmed lock). Just keep moving your probes closer, reducing their scan radius and overlapping the icons until you get the green "Lock" on a site.

Just a quick correction. A red sphere means that the signature is somewhere along the edge of that sphere, not inside it. (Depending on the signature strength though the sphere will only be an approximation). The probes work by judging the distance to a signature, so if there's a sphere then that's the probe's way of showing you what that distance is (showing it as the edge of the sphere that's displayed).

Similarly a red ring means that the signature is somewhere along the edge of the ring, not inside it.

This is helpful when you also understand what the spheres, rings, double dots, and single dots actually mean.

Sphere = Only one probe has spotted the signature
Ring = Only two probes have spotted the signature
Double dots = Only three probes have spotted the signature
Single dot = Four or more probes have spotted the signature

So if you get a sphere, it'll show up around one of your probes. Any place where that sphere overlaps your other probes can be discounted, since only that one probe should be seeing the signature since it's providing a sphere readout instead of a ring or dot(s). So you would scan in the area of the sphere where the other probes did not overlap the sphere.

If that makes sense at all.

As for why it's not showing anything when you click on a signature, I don't know. Even if you don't click on a specific signature you should still be seeing spheres/rings/dots. You're clicking on the signature you want to look at in the scan window, and not trying to click on it in space, right?

Oh, and you're in the solar system view and not in normal view, right? (Click on the starmap icon in the upper right of the scan window, it should open up the solar system view for you)

Also lol at quick correction. Guess that didn't work out.

This isnt exactly what you were asking, but will probably be useful. Probes now stack beyond 4 when pinning a signature. So if you can't pin a sig quite yet, try launching another probe if you have the skills for it (Astronometrics iirc). 8 probes is the most you can launch at once.

Ah! Thanks, I misunderstood that part.

There's a couple of thread in this section that may help you Vekka

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=163566

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=126437

The main thing about using scan probes is that your own skills are more important than your characters skills, practice is the key word here.

In the third thread one of the posters is in a wormhole corp, what those guys don't know about scanning isn't worth knowing, they do it everyday and to them it is quite literally a life saving skill, his corporation does have a public channel if you want to really get into exploration.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Oh, you might have accidentally hidden the scan results (different from filtering). Goto the Solar System Map (F10) and from there goto: World Map Control Panel >> Solar System Map (tab) >> Scan Result (middle of the list). The little 'eye' icon to the right should be enabled (no red 'x'); the red 'x' of course will hide all Scan Results within the map entirely. That could be where your problem lies.

So if you get a sphere, it'll show up around one of your probes.
This, but if your signature is only detected by a single probe, you won't directly see a sphere on the screen unless you pick that signature in the list of scan results, only when you select it in the list will it show a sphere within that probe's radius on the screen.

Has to be noted: if you select a sig in the list, you can't click on it to center your view anymore (bug still not fixed), but any sig that is showing on screen with a red dot, a yellow bookmark or a green bookmark can otherwise be clicked to center your screen on it.

I hid it on the filter.. lol Anyways I gave up on that tutorial, even when the red sphere did show up I could never get it to 100%. First time playing Eve and the whole 3D map thing is very hard for me to get use to. Thanks for all the help everyone though!!
