Not scrammed/webbed can't get speed to warp?

Hi all,

I've just come back after a year off and trying to do some missions (lvl 4). I've now had 2 occasions where I had aligned and tried to warp out of a mission area (either back to station or to a gate), but can't get speed - it would increase for a few seconds then suddenly drop down and repeat...First time wasn't an emergency, but this went on for about 5 minutes before I finally warped.

The second time was an emergency, as my tank was breaking, but I should have had plenty of time. So I proceeded to align to station while I waited for my drones to get back and as soon as they returned I hit warp, but nothing happened. Looked, and sure enough - same thing was happening - couldn't get enough speed.

I was not webbed or scramed...The chick said "warp drive active", which of course means at this point, I was completely stuck. Couldn't relaunch my drones to try for a final stand, couldn't warp, couldn't even really move....Ended up losing my ship.

I'm guessing it's some sort of mechanic that didn't exist last time I played, as it seemed like the slowdowns corresponded to missile hits, but not 100% sure on that....hoping somebody might know wtf happened and how to avoid it.

The specific mission where I lost my ship was Tomb Of The Unknown Soldiers - I do not recall the first one.

Thanks in advance...

p.s. I also tried firing my afterburner, which had no effect (if anything made the situation worse, tho it usually helps shave off a few seconds to cycle it once just after you commit to warp).

It sounds lot like you where hitting something and bouncing off of it...

Where there any large objects near you that could have caused this (sometimes the collision area doesn't match up with what you actually see of the object so even if it looked like there wasn't there may have been.

If this was the case just cancel warp (ctrl + space) and look for something that you can warp to that has clear space in line with it and warp to that.

If that's not it, it may be a bug and you could try reporting it / petitioning for reimbursement.

This. Ctrl-space will stop you, then double click away from the object in question. Once clear, warp to destination. Happens semi-regularly both on LCOs and acceleration gates (though admittedly not as much as I recall it happening a few years ago).

I think it more the rule than the exception that the graphics have nothing to do with the actual shape of the object.

Ever tried to navigate in on of the "rubble" stations in some missions? in some place you can fly through a wall, in others you can't fly through a hole. Also pick a large asteroid and try to fly around it as close as possible ...

So, whenever in combat, one of the important things to always think of is to stay clear of obstacle (clear = keep a healthy distance to the visible object). You cannot speed tank when caught by collision mechanics.

It's also sometimes possible to bump off the warpin beacon

Thanks all... sounds like it's still somewhat a mystery, then...

I know 99% sure the first time it happened, I was not stuck on anything (at least nothing visible, but can't rule out some graphical glitch where something didn't render right or maybe something small that clipped inside the ship model)...that was my first thought, so I zoomed in to look all around, but didn't see anything. Nothing really big around me, so idk. How it could happen twice, tho, still leaves me puzzled...

Going to beef up my tank this time and see if I can reproduce the problem. If I can and show CCP it's a bug, maybe I can get my ship back, but I'm not getting my hopes up =/

Anyway, thanks again!

Petition them anyway and explain what happened, worst case scenario maybe they can figure out what went wrong. Personally never had that mission so I can't tell you what went wrong, but if I ever run into it I guess I know what to watch for.

Happens to me alot also, this sounds like a case of a client desync. Some of the weird things I have seen so far:

- Drones ordered to dock, they dont. I leave them, warp to a station, dock and log out. Next time I relog back on, I am outside the
station, with all my drones in bay.
- Modules act weird, like repair modules/AB wont go off/on but you see them on your ship, etc etc.
- You're targetting some ships and it just goes on forever.

Next time you see something out of the line, just warp out and reconnect to be on the safe side. I try to make sure I have little to no downloads/uploads in the background, but its not a surefire way to avoid it. It was bad enough for me to consider mining as an alternative..

Ok, well as it turns the issue IS getting stuck on stuff.............

I had been traveling in that direction the whole time, watched as my ship slowly moved past the asteroid, then suddenly as it's almost completely behind me, I'm stuck. How in the h**l do they expect us to navigate like that? I mean, which direction was I supposed to head, if by all visual indication, I had cleared the rock?

Yea, that was the whole thing tho... Two of the 4 times it happened to me, I was trying to make an emergency warp but couldn't :(

You should see some of the hilarious collision spheres in professional sites. Missions have nothing on the crap you can get stuck on traveling from can to can.

I don't doubt it...This is the worst collision detection I've ever seen in any game ever. EVAR.

I really don't recall having this issue a year ago when I played and I had done many many lvl 4 missions at that time + lived in null for several months ratting w/o any issues like this. Only time I lost a ship back then was always clearly me being a dumb noob, but this..... this is ridiculous...lol

Here's what is most likely happening, you may be experiencing lag (not slowness) but some kind of connection communication lag, if you heard warp drive active the mechanics of the game won't let you deploy drones, however if you can't activate mods or you continue to fire but ammo doesn't change ie; 9,8,7, and continue downward it is connecting and disconnecting from internet access do you lose it right after?

recheck your overview settings buddy. In the year you had away from game, something may have moved or may need re-adding after one of the many patches.
