what if we were able to use any fighters and fighter bombers remotely from any station no matter where we were and fly it using a joystick

that means that the vessel will have to have a fixed guns facing forward and the pilots skills to apply on to the vessel, so the FC don't complain why I did not so up in person

this is recipe of lots of fun with sum RED SANGRIA . Twisted

This would require a total overhaul of the game's netcode as well as several other core mechanics changes.

This has been mentioned countless times. Why is it a dumb idea?

Chiefly, its impossible to do without a MUCH more powerful server.

The eve client updates from the server once per second. this is why you can have a ship "locked" with guns hot, and you sometimes won't shoot it before it warps.

Tracking dozens or hundreds of joystick movements is incredibly taxing on a server, and is the same reason most flight sims or shooters are restricted to <100 players.

So unless you want to be flying with a refresh cycle of once per second, then there's no way to this.

And this is just the technical reason.

how about in combination with DUST...
Carrier launches fighters and fighter bombers towards the planet....

... log on to dust, and pilot said fighters and fighter bombers - no targeting data needed from the infantry, unlike planetary bombardment with guns/missiles.

That's called 'Ping' or simply lag.

Data is received and sent in milliseconds hence a ping of 100 is the time, in milliseconds, for information to go to the server and back again.

When I hit the button to make my character walk in station, it doesn't take 1 full second EVER. If info was sent once every second, DUST would not be possible and CCP has been wasting their time.

Direct control over my ship would be great. It would especially be useful for flying frigs since it would allow a pilot to avoid flying directly toward or away from other enemies while they orbit.

As for the idea about direct control of fighters and bombers, I don't know.

Personally I think it would be pretty cool if you could buy some frigs, equip them, and then put them into the drone bay of a carrier and use actual equipped frigs as drones.

No, it's called “server tick” and has nothing to do with routing speed.

That's because a) WIS isn't multiplayer, and b) because Dust isn't using the same server software (or scale) as EVE. It also has very little to do with how often you send information to the server, but rather with how often the server bothers to look at the information you've sent and give you an update on the world.

EVE's server tick is 1 Hz. The amount of alteration that would be needed to the server code and hardware to allow any kind of sensible or useful direct input would be absolutely massive.

Well, I've been searching and so far I haven't found anything except forum posts about this 1 sec refresh. So basically nothing but hearsay. Anyone got a solid reference to this?

Yes. I would also say that if you didn't find anything, you didn't search very hard…
