I was in lowsec within 2 weeks of starting. Screaming across EvEUni teamspeak when getting chased by pirates as I was blown up 1 load in 3 running level 1 courier missions:D Stuck with that for a week before Sabre told me to stop screaming in his ear, that "help help" without a system wasn't of much use *giggle*. Moved to nullsec, but about a year later started a mission alt who became a dread alt. After a few years of null, and after I sold my dread alt off, I moved to hi sec and stayed. I came back to the game a few months ago, and am still loving hi sec.

I even redid the tutorials when I got back. I did probing for the first time. in 0.0 we always had a prober, so I never learned to do it. I also redid them about 2 weeks ago after the changes. *sad face* they got rid of Aura voicing for most of it:(

I'm cheerfully carebearing away now on the industry/trade side of the house.

I avoid non consensual PvP.

I am an explorer/solo enthusiast mostly.

People call null ratters carebears.

Well, I like the money making part of eve, not money loosing

This post sums up why the 'best' work with DCM inc.

WARP DRIVE makes eve boring

really - add warping align time 300% on gun aggression and eve becomes great again

You'll need to define "carebear" for this thread to have a shred of objectivity.

Are you talking about people who do pve and industrial content, or people who want to rid the game of non-consensual interaction?

That's fair point.
I myself define carebear as someone who does not seek PvP combat. That doesn't really mean that such person is willing to change game mechanics.

As such, I am carebear since this spring. However, I am looking forward to try many other aspects in this game. Otherwise it will become boring pretty soon. And yeah, I'm aware of the problem of breaking safe mentality Smile

Other definitions of carebears may vary, no objection here.

The ones that drop off after a year of carebearing probably don't go to the forums though so result will be skewed to say the least.

And no, I don't consider myself a carebear.

I live in a WH.

I don't seek PvP but I will defend my territory. To me PvP is an operating cost and if I can avoid it I will.

I love PvE content. Killing NPCs with a group of friends is my bag. I used to like incursions; I like killing sleepers. When I lived in null I thought doing anoms in my BS with a friend in a carrier next to me was the best thing about it. I left because of CTAs and mandatory PvP. I also think a relatively safe high sec is a good thing. Non-consensual PvP bothers me as a concept. However, I don't think a "safe" high sec would be good for Eve either. I am not one of "those" carebears. I like the changes they are making and hope they work out the way I think they will. Does this make me a carebear?

playing for a little over a year. mostly doing missions and trading with a clone in npc pirate space for pvp. i define a carebear as a person who tries to negate most of the risk through his playstyle. those who want to take out parts of the game or change the rules so they can do their stuff unharmed are just carebear whiners...

i love pvp, i just want to have a full bank and a steady income while doing it :P

There also seems to be an issue with the definition of PvP. Many high sec residence do exploration and the market, both of which are PvP activities, but avoid PvP space combat. This really needs better wording. Trading in the market is absolutely a PvP activity, but when you hear someone say "Im going to go do some PvP" you do not imagine them logging into their Jita alt and adjusting orders.

In many cases what is being avoiding is stress. Many simply do not like the stress associated with PvP space combat. Its not an enjoyable sensation, and hence not something they want in a recreational activity. For these people its not the skill in the game, or the skill points, or the ISK that deters them from PvP space combat. Its the physical and mental reaction they get to stress.

Most of my pilots are high sec industrialists, the oldest being 4.5 years. Two (including this one) live in W. One owns a mission fit Rattler.

Good advice, and definitely something I'll be doing eventually (I'd eventually like to produce things to be thrown against the swarm), but for now I'm focusing on the needs of my wormhole compadres. If you're looking to throw your industrial might behind people fighting the CFC and HBC (I assume this is who you meant by "the swarm") then you'll be hard pressed to find a serious null sec alliance who wont force you to fight at gun point Blink

Honestly, this applies to nullsec/lowsec as well. You're going to generally only get long-termish players here.

If I were to limit myself to the forums as a survey area I'd probably open up the survey to all areas of space (or have a seperate hisec and not-hisec survey, or carebear/not carebear if you really must). Then compare the average playtimes of the two, on the assumption that the affect to which the forums have older players is roughly equal for all areas of the game (which of course may not be true).

I guess technically carebear, going on two years, some trial accounts ranging five years. I mean at least I base in hisec, and frequent trade hubs as a trader. I'm also a cov-ops explorer, ecm/ewar pilot, practice evasion over direct confrontation, and find no serious restrictions as to where I can go.

I do pvp though, furiously, just not here, it's not so great. I like organized pvp w/o politics, especially factional against targets looking to pvp, not just gank fests... or meh mission running for that matter as far as FW here. EVE just isn't pvp appealing, mechanics are lacking, no real player justice system, no solid bounty hunting system such as SWG had early on. I've been pvping before some of you were born, even back to PnP days, EVE just falls short in many respects. I have my eye on FW changes though. We'll see.

Yes I have no use for a rattlesnake, not unless it gives a probe bonus or can haul goods. I have better use for my Tengu. Even my Buzzards are worth more to me, especially with a good and evasive loadout which is far from cheap.

I am pretty much a carebear in Eve, and closing in on 2 years.

I realize that PvP is a part of the game but I find it mind-numbingly boring to do. Spent some time in a wormhole PvP alliance and that really drove home how boring and time consuming it can be in this game. Unless you really covet kill mails, the culmination of all the effort is a unsatisfying one sided beatdown. If I'm looking to test my skill against another player I'll usually log into a game where PvP is competitive, my current favorite being GW2.

But I play eve because I still like the game. I particularly like that you can have an entire character that does nothing but trade, production, research, or PI, and these are the things that I've decided to focus on.

I think I may be kind of a mutt. I like pvp. Heck,if i didn't, i would not be in red fed.

However, I also like my indy alts. I invent and produce t2 mods. It's fun being able to manufacture every mod on the ship I am about to lose. So really, I enjoy both parts. i've found s pleasant balance of indy and pvp which could work fairly well in any sec status system or wormhole.

The indy side even adds more to the pvp. I pop a frig and think... Good kill... Ooo... Another 5+ mil isk in profit if the guy buys from me. So really, it all works put well.

2) If you do, how long have you been playing?

1. More time in high than low, yes, and no, I don't accept the "carebear" derogatory term, thanks.
2. 6 years, at least one account active the entire time (currently 5 accounts)
3. I don't give a toss about losing a ship, high, low, or null.

Carebear in the sense that I am a high sec resident who enjoys market and industrial pursuits. However I don't in any way think that high sec should be danger free. That would not only be boring as hell but against the whole idea of EVE as I see it.

November 2012 will be 8 years for my main.

And before I hear "Oh I pity you that you've remained in high sec so long. You've lost the game", I'd like to add that I did a stint in 0.0 many years back. Maybe I chose the wrong group to get involved with, but after asking advice of the CEO on where I could get some guidance once I was out there and receiving the reply "Just go out and do something" I was soured to the experience. Also, receiving orders in the corp channel that all haulers should "get their asses out to belt x.x and haul" wasn't very enamoring.

Which reminds me.....I see a lot of threads about how to get more people out to null. I can say for one thing that having a corp management that is interested in helping shape new null residents would go a long way. I hate to bring up RL but I run a company with a few thousand employees and when I hire someone I have never told them "Just go out and do something". Not only does that do a disservice to the employee, it would speak volumes of me as a leader.

If PvP requires you to log in...well, I guess I am a carebear then, but I'm working on it.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

The former - predominately those that do PvE and Indy in highsec.

Not wanting to do PvP and not needing to do PvP is too subjective imo.

I consider myself a care bear even though I play in Null/High everyday. I just don't go out of my way to **** people over.

I have been playing 2 years, with no null till 6 months ago.

~3 years, 2 months a carebear and going (defined as someone who primarily plays for PvE and actively avoids or tries to minimize ship to ship PvP).
