carebear, 1 year.

Wrong i ve been playing more than 3 years and mostly high sec carebearing like some of you like to call it(with 4 acounts if you want to know)

Some of you need to understand that in this game you can play a dozen different playstyles and still enjoy the game immensly
So deal with it , it is not your game alone

I do not agree with what you are saying , but i will defend to the death your right to say it...... Voltaire

"Main" account created February 2006 (not played continually since then though, there have been some pauses).

I am absolutely a carebear, i've been to 0.0 and tried that. Didnt like it at all (this is a few years ago, but i dont imagine things have changed much).

Oh, and finally, i must comment on this one :

But the bulk of them leave before they get that rattlesnake. Or if they do get one they can only sit in it. The care bears never get to the point where they can fight back effectively before they leave the game and are replaced by new care bears. That is exactly why the new crime rules will be such a joke. Not only do they have a lack of skill points, but also lack in game play skill.

Is this "todays" Rattlesnake, or the "old" Rattlesnake ? Now they cost what, 600 mill or so ? I bought mine for 2.1 bill back in the day (and i worked #%¤&"#%¤ hard to get it...lol). I then used it as my primary mission runner for a couple of years until the Golem was released.

Still sitting in my hangar, there is much sentimental value in that ship, even though its monetary value took a serious nosedive Smile

Carebear. Not particularly interested in PvP, and generally try to avoid it unless someone's asking for help on a hole. Want to get into it more as it seems to be a large part of the endgame, but generally prefer indy activities. Couldn't care less about my killboard but working towards helping out competently in fleet activities and, of course, minimizing losses, which requires some experience with PvP. I'm not looking for PvP when I log in, though, which I think puts me in the soft and cuddly basket.

4 years play on and off, with the most intense period being the last 1.5 years.

Anyone like this I'd suggest speaking to a Null Sec alliance and offering to basically seed their markets, maybe even join them. Most alliances can always do with more guys willing to haul stuff around and produce stuff, especially their doctrine fits.

Just make sure you pick an alliance that doesn't issue "CTA"s or whatever where you get harassed for not taking part.

"Carebear" isn't a highsec-only thing. There is a huge amount of carebears in nullsec. Hence the term "nullbear".

I'm a hisec carebear, in the sense of "carebear" that is, "I don't intentionally seek PvP encounters, but I'm not going to cry to mother when PvP happens to me."

I've been playing since 2008. This character was created in December 2007, but I finished the trial period and left the game alone for 30 or so days while I was finishing up some stuff in that naked-elves-dancing-on-mailboxes game (from memory, finishing the druid epic flight form quest line, having an affair with the other raid healer, and quitting the game). Then I spent far too long trying to run L3 & 4 missions in a Merlin.

That's probably oversharing a little.

For those confused by definitions: it's not about external definition. It's about self-identification.

If I self-identify as gay because I feel happy and joyful, the fact that someone quoted me out of context will be little comfort when I'm in hospital recovering from being mugged by some homophobes who thought I was gay.

Thus we'll have a whole bunch of people identify as "care bear" in this thread, where they interpret carebear to mean "risk averse", "doesn't like nullsec", "wants PvP removed from hisec", or "prefers to handle conflict by expressing love for everyone."

What does care bear mean? If it doesn't have an accepted meaning, what's the use of identifying as such?

How people think of themselves is meaningless?

You're confusing identification and activities. You'll find they never fit clearly.

I do understand that there are people who can't figure this out without external rules and guidance, but there really is no wrong answer.

My working defnition of carebear is "someone who does an awful lot of PVE".

There is a difference between "survey" and "psychoanalysis". One in intended to achieve some kind of understanding of a population, the other is intended to achieve some kind of understanding of the self. There may not be any wrong answers in either, but in a survey it's no use identifying 80% of the population as "carebears" if everyone defines that term differently.

Without external rules and guidance, words can have no meaning to communicate. This is why we have dictionaries.

And if the understanding desired is how people think of themselves?

I get a feeling this question is a bit loaded for you.

Good advice, and definitely something I'll be doing eventually (I'd eventually like to produce things to be thrown against the swarm), but for now I'm focusing on the needs of my wormhole compadres. Enjoy plundering the resources beyond the wibbly-wobbly, and despite my carebearish anxiety at leaving hi-sec have not looked back since venturing into the unknown.
