Absolution or Damnation?

Hello

I'm trying to decide should i take absolution or damnation command ship as alt. My tactic would be to have a battleship main and this command ship would boost its armor + give fire support. I would only warp the command ship on grid in emergency, so it would warp between safe spots most of the time boosting my main. This is because i would like to concentrate on my main and not worry about two accounts in pvp, unless emergency.

I have also heard that there are T3 cruisers, that cannot be probed, but i think command ship would give me more punch on the battlefield if needed and i dont mind warping between safespots with the command ship.

If there are any experienced pilots could you tell me what the pros and cons of each ship are? I'm open to other alt use suggestions too.

Thank You
Mandaoza Mutti

Disclaimer:
Firstly is not my main, and i do not want to post with my main for security reasons. Secondly do not lock this thread as being in wrong forum, since as i am in trial i cannot post in any other forums yet. Thirdly this is not a trolling post.

Well.

The absolution packs a slightly bigger punch when it comes to fighting, on the other side the Damnation can run 3 links at the same time for bigger boosts.

So it's a trade off you have to consider. Personally no experience with them as I hardly run armor fleets and when I do I'm usually just a grunt in a ship that doesn't have to worry about the boosting part etc.

As for unprobeable T3's, yes it's possible but only if you gimp your ship a lot.

Disclaimer replies:

Please post with your main, don't know what the security consequenses are but I don't see a problem with asking questions on the forum regarding your security.

2nd and 3rd, don't care about that. IMO this is a good place as it's a question, not sure if a New Citizen would ask, but then again they can read this and have some idea what's going on in EVE. And these questions are hardly of the trolling kind.

There's a large amount of "trying to run before you can walk" about this post (not least because a solo PVP battleship is a bad idea) but I'll give you a couple of pointers.

- The ship you want is the Damnation, this ought to be obvious from the ship description (the Absolution has no bonus to links)
- T3s cannot be unprobable, just very very very very hard to probe. Configured this way, and boosting, they are exactly useless in a fight.
- So mostly is the Damnation
- A boosting T3 gives better bonuses than a boosting command ship. This is likely to change.

If you want to get some PVP a much better use of the alt account is to scout for the main; possibly an actual CovOps to scan and point ships (find and tackle). You'll also want to start small, frigates, destroyers and cruisers are all new-player friendly in PVP.

Also, CCP are talking about changing gang links to only be useable on grid so not much point in further discussion? What?

Ah too bad.. Thanks everyone for input. I think i will still go with damnation even if it needs to be on grid. What would you pair with damnation? What would be good combo considering other ship is damnation? I like the damnation looks and my other character is few months away from damnation.

I think i will use the damnation on small gang fights too, thats why i want to train it. Now i just need to know what would be good companion for the damnation. Any suggestions? Also, if possible please let me know why the ship would be good companion and what are the pros and cons of the other ship?

EDIT: Would Absolution be better choice if on grid with other ship?

t3 links would be the best choice.

If you're going to have anything warp on grid with you and help your best bet would be a logi/falcon.

An absolution can only fit 1 gang link and gets no bonus to it. A damnation can fit 3 and gets 3% per cs level boost to armour links. So if you really want a gang boost alt damnation makes way more sense. The absolution does far more damage though. The partner ship woud obviously be an armour tanker like an abaddon.

If you are really on trial you should know that a booster is very skill intensive, a t2 linked damnation is over a year of training time.

How about a pilgrim for finding targets / neuting and then just call the boss damnation to do the dirty work?

You're looking at this the wrong way. Having one ship dedicated to boosting makes sense if:

- You can do it safely on an alt, so you can pretend you're solo and wave your epeen -- works only whilst you can boost off-grid
- As part of a fleet

2 ships isn't a fleet, and the boosts from the Damnation are worth a lot (lot) less than a second, much cheaper ship.

A pilgrim works well in the manner you described, but a Damnation is a terrible choice for a DPS ship. Any tier 2/3 battlecruiser will do it better.

This is obnoxiously general, as "what works" is really going to relate to what type of PVP you want/try to do.

It really is a case of "If you have to ask ..." so the usual advice of starting small still applies.

You can be quite a menace dual-boxing cruisers.

Would work awesomely or not at all, depending on what you're trying to do.

You will hardly have an answer on that until you can tell what kind of targets you'll be hunting, because you will need to restrict yourself to what you can engage with your boats and pick your fights accordingly.
Also, start cheap with small frigates and cruisers to learn the mechanisms before you field a command ship and a battleship, everyone loves shiny killmails.
No amount of ISK put into your boats, replaces the experience, it just makes expensive losses.
