What just happened?

So 1st thing I have to admit is : This happened in Rancer.
I know, I know. I should know better by now.

I’ve lost a few ships now in low sec, all of them leaving a gate that’s camped, and it’s taught me how to fit correctly to get away.

But this time I jumped in from the Hek end, and made it into warp to the Gate at the Jita end, and this fella ‘d1rtybird’ 1 shots me as I dropped out of warp!
To be honest I was seriously impressed. It must have been one hell of a fast lock. It looked like I was still in warp!

I know bubbles in nul can do that, but what was his technique, and whats the counter?

And 2 more Q’s.
Killboards: I want to know his ship and fit, but cant find it. Is there an official killboard that records all kills.

Incidentally, he lost a lot of kudos with me looking at the KB’s I did find. 100% kill efficiency, but 99% of the kills were noob ships, shuttles and pods. Big man!

And finally, How come he didn’t get my pod? It happened so quick and unexpectedly, it seemed like an age before the pod jumped. I was mashing the jump button, but it was a good 5 seconds. Is it just a game mechanic, that on the server I’d jumped but visually it took a while, what do you recon?

Cheers

I recently had the same lesson taught to me. Don't warp to 0. If the gate is camped you can bug out and pull up the map to find a way around

He was using a smartbombing ship. The smart bomb will shoot you around the gate and it will likely happen before you have landed on grid and thus you won't be able to do anything. This kind of gate camp is useless against anything bigger than a frigate or decently tanked. Yet, smart bombs will one shoot most frigates, shuttles and haulers.

You just met a smartbombing ship. They don't need lock, they only need you in range. All stuff in range of teh smartbomb takes damage, and with large smartbombs vs frigates / pods it's almost instant kill of both.

As for killboards:

You will only see a fit that he used that was shot down, as long as you survive nobody will know your fit from killboards.

The 2nd one, could just be game lag or the session timer (you get a session timer when your ship is destroyed, during that session timer you can't jump the gate).

His killboard is here:

http://eve-kill.net/?a=pilot_detail&view=kills&plt_id=507748&m=10&y=2012

As you can see, all he does is kill frigs/dessies on a gate by smartbombing.

Smartbombing capsules in a Rokh?

That must be about as low as it gets in EVE.

How totally, utterly pathetic.

I agree with you Oraac, though the pilot will likely claim he is a "leet-PvP player" or a badass pirate.

Smartbomb rokh is daddy ship. Don't fly round low sec in a little ship :) noobs.

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

If you want to keep traveling through hellsystems like Rancer, its best to set up some bookmarks a few hundred kilometers off the gates and learn to use d-scan.

Maximize your ship's hit points and resistances, treat it as standard procedure if you want to survive beyond a one-shot.

When you lose your ship you enter a session change and can't jump or dock for 10 seconds (last i checked, they change session time quite often), you are far safer to warp off (pods warp instantly) than sit and hammer jump. Also rancer always has smartbombers, don't go there.

Hmm, possibly a stupid question.

But isn't there also a connection between signature radius and the amount of damage you take from a smart bomb?

For instance, fitting a shield extender gives a better shield, but it also increases your signature radius.

Or is sig radius only an issue versus missiles?

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

Sig radius isn't used in smartbomb calcs.

Guy is using named smartbombs (on at least a few of the KMs). It'd be one heck of a nice kill if you get him. ;)

Wow thats some weak "sauce". There is at least 6 of them running together in Rokhs, all of them smart bombing.

What a bunch of "fornicating" sticks. They all look like some pieces of "work."

Thats a hell of a gate camp

Then perhaps such people should not go to lowsec. Killing pods is funny Lol
