Odd Graphics Problem

I just returned to the game after a 4 year absence and I am getting a strange issue:

Game starts up and everything looks good inside stations. I undock and it is still fine. I fly around, still fine. I can jump through gates no problem.

However, as soon as I go to a belt with a few guristas rats my graphics start flickering and going slow. This seems to correspond to when their first missile impacts my ship. Oddly, the graphics do not return to normal after this and a game restart is then required.

Anyone seen this before or know how to deal with it?

Thanks

Try going to client's "Display & Graphics" settings and disable the missiles effects.

Thanks

Yeah, that stopped it happening, but now I have no missile effects at all, just a message popping up saying I've been hit.

I've searched around and can't see any other post quite like this. I have an ATI 6870X2 which is a Cross Fire card. I wonder if that's got anything to do with it?

I have Radeon Pro so I could keep playing with settings until I stumble on the cure. I currently have AA turned off, so I guess turning it on might be a good first step.

Ah, ATI drivers.... Evil
I have a Radeon 4850 and last good drivers that works with my card is version 11.7. Any other driver including the latest (12.8) leads my machine to a BSOD at some point.
My guess is to try an use older drivers if anything else fails.

FYI, I set my AA from off to low and it appears to have cleared up.
