Yet Another ASB Idea

I am wondering how you guys feel about this idea:

ASB's consuming boosters to increase the maximum, but not current, shield amount. Either passive recharge rate or another module must be used to bring you back up to 100% shields. Each cycle increases shields maximum until a cap is reached, and the effect dissapears once you enter warp/jump.

Pros:
1) some mission PvE fits could be capable of fending off being jumped by pirates in low sec (mid mission)
2) If in fleet, and your intel is good enough to know when the opposition is approaching. You can give your fleet permission to buff shields.
3) better fits the secondary effect that the modules name implies.
4) no increase in signature radius
5) stronger than shield extenders, but requires time to boost and another module to repair back to 100%
6) This does not trample on the toes of any other shield tanking modules. Extenders are a better option if you will be warping often. And this does not repair your shields, so rep modules retain thier place. No effects on resists, to hardeners remain effective.

Cons:
1) If you warp off, you lose the buffed amount. aka ISK in boosters
2) requires foreshadowing the future, you do not get the full effect until a number of cycles has passed.
3) If noone comes, then you wasted cap boosters for nothing (risk vs reward)
4) If you warp into a camp, you have a wasted module slot. (not enough prep time required to make use of the module)
5) no passive bonus
6) because of hard cap on possible boosted shields, more than one module only decreases the time it takes to reach the cap

I'm leaning in a different direction, only because I don't feel this is needed, but for the sake of discussion,

How much of a "increase" are we talking here?

I didnt mention numbers on purpose. I know i have a bad habit of focusing on the numbers rather than the idea. So others might also.

seeing that it requires charges, and you lose the effect once warp/jump it would need to be better than a shield extender. I was thinking that the cap on this would be 1.5-2x the effect of the shield extender attributed to that class of ship.

Again, i wasnt thinking about talking hard numbers. More focused on the idea.

Just think how this would affect gate campers. Don't want to ruin your dream, but this is a bad idea.

They are changing the amount of boosters you can put in an ASB in the winter expansion....

To be honest, I think the shield boost amount should be directly related to the size of cap charge you use in the ASB Booster...

example: an XL-ASB can use a 400 or 800 booster.... If you use a 400 charge, you get 1/2 the boost you'd get with an 800 charge... For this change to be successful, all current ASB's boost amounts should only be achieved when using the largest appropriate cap charge for their size...

If anything, it would help the gate campers. Others would be warping/jumping so they wouldnt have a shield boost from the way I described in the OP. So, I do not under stand your concern.

Based on your proposal, gatecampers could land on gate, turn on the "boost extender", once they are empty, the reload and do it again, and again, and again, and again, bring in a hauler, and again, and again...

The you have Hurricane gang gate camping with Wyvern gang shields...? You get the idea.

theres a hard cap, a limit, you cant do that.

There is no need for this module. Like dude was saying about the gatecampers, it is exploitable. You say there is a hard cap, but that is currently only limited to max fitting with max skills. You would have to literally write in a hard cap for each shiptype. Then you have to figure out other places this would be exploitable.

Seems like too much effort in something that is really not needed. If you want a better ratting ship, buy one.

Interesting idea, but I don't think it would encourage behaviors we want to encourage.

It would be a ridiculous buff to passive shield tanking in the realm of PVE which I don't think is warranted, but the biggest problem is that it directly rewards static PVP (ie I'm going to sit here on this gate and hit F1) and penalizes dynamic roaming (Hey guys, want to go bust that gatecamp? Can't, they're ASB fit...)
