LADAR sites: Is it worth it to Harvest Gas Clouds?

Is it worth it to bring a Gas Cloud Harvester to get the gas that drops in a LADAR site? Or is it just simply better to ignore that part of the loot?

no idea in kspace but in WHs the c320, c540 and c28/c32 if youre bored are worth quite a lot.

In k-space, gas sites are pretty marginal. Unless you're wholesaling to a booster production operation you're going to have trouble even moving the goods once you have them on market. Unless you plan to specifically harvest gas as a task it isn't really going to work out -- which is to say that sites can be safely ignored if you're just doing exploration.

Combat ladars are another story entirely, of course.

Some null sec gas sites pay out around 100 mil/hr per account mining, not to be sniffed at.

Dont forget you have combat ladars in some null/lowsec areas which are quite profitable when you get the good drops.

There's another corner-case where gas harvesting is useful: L4 mining missions. "Like Drones to a Cloud", for example. The mission itself pays out around 2M ISK, but the LP award is pretty significant and is where the real ISK is at. It's still not great money compared to other activities in the game, but it's worth training up for. (In fact, this is the sole reason I trained gas harvesting at all.)

Does that 100 mil/hr require a harvest specialized ship? Or can you get that with just equiping a single harvester on a combat ship?

You're looking at maxing the gas harvesting skill and mounting 5 T2 harvesters to pull in that kind of money.

5 t2 harvesters

IDK what site you are doing. If it is a nebula the loot is the gas. If there are rats the idea is you kill the rats then come back in a harvester and harvest the gas, which is worth far mor ethan the rather crappy rats. If its a combat ladar with gas in it then i don't know, no combat ladar i have done have had any gas in them.

Specialized ship isn't necessary - just T2 harvesters. People harvesting gas in battlecruisers and battleships (Hyperion, Myrm).

Well yes, but those are specialized ships compared to a normal exploration fit and they are required to make it worthwhile.

In fact, until the ORE frigate comes out there is no such thing as a specialized gas harvesting ship in the sense of a purpose-built hull.

If you'd like to produce boosters, then yes, it is worth it.

As someone has already pointed out - the new ORE Mining Frigate will have a gas harvesting bonus. In addition to this, you can can fit the new gas mining rigs that became available after the last mining barge changes.
