There's other games for that.

This whole walking on station thing is like making another huge game into eve online client, which would make it nearly double or triple in size. Not to mention how much work they need to do in developing stations and interactions npc and voice overs and more. Like SWTOR quality. Which costs like soo much developing funds.

Making the Dust game is 10 times cheaper for sure.

Eve was never envisioned to be a full on sci-fi simulator.

That idea only came after it succeeded initial release.

The original genesis of Eve was born in the fact that a couple of guys couldn't grief people in other games as much as they wanted.

It's all about dem Avatars

I know it certainly made me happy to read it.

Hmmm... I'll see your recent forum thread and raise you a DevBlog from 2006 that says pretty much the same thing.

The moral of the story is don't hold your breath on features CCP promises. You will surely suffocate. We waited six years to get a room and now they are talking like they're starting over.

EvE is what it is. I'm pretty sure even the Devs don't know when or if avatar play is actually ever going to happen.

Sorry to be a debbie downer but that's the truth.

That's not entirely accurate Gogela, if you think about it.

At that time they did not have the core tech in place, now they do.
At that time they did not have a working prototype, now they do.
At that time they didn't have a solid plan for what the game play would consist of, now they do.
At that time they didn't have a very clear picture of what their player base REALLY wanted to do with it, now they do.

A "lot" has changed since then, it's just that most of it is under the hood.

You DID notice that everyone (apart from you i guess) hated Incarna with considerable fury right?

I truly believe that WiS does not now, nor will it ever, have ANY beneficial part in what EVE is.
I would not be disappointed in the slightest if CCP never revisit the idea in any way shape or form.

Actually, they did have a working prototype. They were showing it off in like, 2006. It had a CQ, station hallways, a room with your pod in, bars and exotic dangers with animations... They just dropped it, for some reason.

I really want WiS, I've always hated that it got put on hold. I love the changes we're getting now, and a lot of them have been long overdue, but I really want to WiS.

As for whether you should stick around? If that's all you want, I wouldn't bother. I'm lucky in that I love Eve, so I have forever to wait, but alot of people really wont want to stick around without seeing the changes we've been promised since 2006. If it comes to it you can always re-sub when more WiS is introduced. I never thought I would find myself telling someone to quit Eve.

That's just flat out wrong. Do some damn research. There's Even a thread in GD trying to be a poll, and CQ is winning 2-1. Sorry bud.

This one has been trounced already.

Even then, Incarna, if done right, which I think it would have been (and should still be), would be an optional - and not entirely neccessary - part of Eve. Whether YOU care for it is not something you would ever need to worry about.

You can have both or either. As long as SiS isn't changed to accommodate WiS, where's the harm?

it's a waste of dev time that CCP could be using to actually improve the game.

PS: if people have already forgotten the riots and horrible shitstorm that was Incarna, then i can't really discuss this with you.
I don't see how anyone with any kind of memory can agrue against it being flat out the most hated expansion ever.

Because there is always something more worthwhile to fix than avatars.

I don't expect there will be any substantial EVE expansions (WiS gameplay included) before 2015 because next couple of years CCP will be busy trying to kickstart Dust. At best there will be common station halls without meaningful gameplay and they'll set your computer on fire due to overheating.

I'm getting the impression that you think walking around naked soaked in your own filth is a bad thing.

It has been a long time since incarna was released. In that time Dust has been developed and the core Eve game has been improved upon slightly. And I mean slightly, we are not talking anything that has really added new content or changed the game in any major way, there have just been a series of nice new tweaks like better looking missiles, more intuitive inventory systems.

I was hoping that there would be some major changes in game by now. I still can not walk in a station. I can not fly my ship, I can not get off my ship and explore that deserted space station in my mission.

So what I want to know is should I just give up hope that these things will ever happen? Have the narrow minded complainers saying Eve is and should only ever be about point and click spaceship based interaction won the day forever? Has the original dream of Eve been sided off and hived off into a series of related but separate products like Dust?

Will we ever see the dream of flying your ship into dock then walking out to meet a friend for a beer and card game before getting involved in a shoot out in a lawless area of the station?

Please tell me now so I can put my energies into a game that still aspires to doing these things and does not just follow the narrow minded veiws of a few vocal people.

In short - Where is my walking in stations god damn it!

No they didn't have jack in 2006. They had a dated looking engine, exotic dancers not dangers and a bar for dudes to emote each other in, and then they scrapped it, because dudes emoting each other don't really make good gameplay. So now they are trying figure out what gameplay concepts are acceptable. Read the damn devblog again.
