Wow... An actual honest to god helpful ISD post that took effort to write. o.O

They actually happen more effort then people give credit for, I actually like ISD Type40's posting.

Though this is the bit where later I find out he's an in game mortal enemy.

As for OP:

I have 1 alt, it is literally to check prices in jita. Is this because it's needed? No, theres an app on my android tablet that lets me do it, I just never have it charged so basically I'm lazy.

From my own experience the only thing you'll struggle with without alts is capital ships, because you'll need someone else lighting cyno beacons for you, and unless you trust them a LOT thats not a good idea.

I'd always advise players to join a player corp instead of a n NPC one. It does leave you open to potential war decs, but the community and quality of players in player corps is often (but not always) better then NPC corps. Likewise you'll have a group of people that over time you will trust to help you out with stuff, which is mega important if you don't have an alt.

Profession wise I'd recommend "EVE-O Forum Warrior", it's a crowded market these days so I assume there's a lot of isk in it.

(What I'm really trying to say is make money in anyway you can at every opportunity. Sure you'll prefer one method, but if the opportunity arises dont turn down free isk.)

- join an *active* corp w/ similar goals as yours
- fly fast (shield) / cloaky stuff if you plan on going in to null/low to increase likelyhood of survival (recons, frigs, cruisers, covops, bombers)
- solo career suggestions: hisec missioning, hauling contracts, ninja salvaging, finding wormholes and reselling them, solo piracy (small fast agile ships)

good luck,

first and foremost, i recommend joining a corp. eve is a multiplayer game.. going it alone, with only one account is not going to be easy no matter how hard to try to make it so

EDIT: Get an alt & make friends.
Getting a alt is not the solution. Or if it is, then this game is badly designed.

Single character or single account?

I have an alt on this account that I took a month or so, trained him in PI and market skills and now he sits in Jita and station trades. The PI time was really wasted, but the rest is very useful. I don't make a ton of cash, but I have enough to pay for my main character here and her time blowing up stuff.
