Oh god Compuserve.

I used to play Gemstone on GEnie network.

Many of the most hard core games back then were text baby! OH yeah! No visuals whatsoever!

And on that note, this one was awesome ---------------> http://www.abandonia.com/en/downloadgame/388

I had a Commodore 64 when I was a kid but my parents were too cheap to buy the tape drive for the longest time. I used to write my own cheesy games but being the cheapos my parents were they didn't allow me to leave the computer on. Evil

The original post is a little weird, but what the hell right?

Good luck to you. May your enemies fear you. I once flew with a guy in corp who would scare 10-15 man gangs away in an Assault Frig. They would see him and literally **** their pants and **** off. Even after three or more years of playing I am no where near that good, but one day... one day...

You can get the same effect if you fly a Kestrel named "Hotdrop0clock" on a character named CynoAlt2.

Welcome to EVE online, a few bits of advise for you to ignore. Core skills, get them imho without core skills you cannot use your ships, jut fly them. *if you have to ask the differance, you will lose ships* You have time to learn each ship, use that time, the big ships look shiny and kewl, but guess what? Without core skills they are going to blow up on you, so I repeat get your core skills!!

Do not trust any deal that seems to good, because it is to good!! Even if your mother played the game, I would say trust no one!! That really nice snake chamer wants your ISK and they have gotten good at getting it from you.

I'm a nerd, you can check my stats!! Skilling Int/Mem at 45 sp per minute is how I mack!     I'm like a lapdog, all bark no bite.

And don't forget, you're not allowed to shoot people in highsec anymore. Seeing as shooting at battleships is now considered "Griefing rookies".

Eh? So do I. Shai Dorsai!

Now that was a hell of a way to blow $1000+ a month, back when $1000 was worth something.

lol at darkfall being more harsh and more sandbox than eve.

I've seen a lot of videos of darkfall, and there is no tactic or strategy in pvp before during or after. Its just lets go all in and try to win. Also people can just run away and escape, where is the harsh part in that? In eve if you get wrap scrambled most of the time its game over. In darkfall even if you see someone you can go around or run away. In eve you can do that. And if you want to jump to a different system you have to pass the stargates. And dropping all the items is what its actually NOT harsh because you can always go get someone else items (same class as you) and get HIS items, and be ready again. You cant do that in eve.
I've also heard people are running around without items at all cause there is not really a point having items.
Oh btw does darkfall makes you lose skillpints? cause eve has also that. So much for harsh darkfall...

Eve might have "safe"-high sec zones but whats the point, if you want to gather the valuable stuff you have to go to 0.0 or wormhole or low sec. And people do go there, in darkfall as you said you can craft everything in your town, and people dont bother going out to craft. Yea nice... 0 market and 0 market pvp.

And of course darkfall has the usual tank healer etc classes. No speed tactic, no maneuver, no agility nothing, as you get in eve with different tyeps of ships. Not to delve deeper into the turret tracking, rof etc. Nothing like that in darkfall. Your usual dmg abilities, that are only affected by items. So much tactical strategy in darkfall......

Do i need to also mention the single server of eve?

Dont compare darkfall with eve, eve is ages ahead from any game out there.

In the interest of fairness to both games (remember, I chose Eve of the two, but unlike the above poster I at least tried both), I feel the need to correct Lialem's post. Unfortunately these forums limit the number of quotes, so I can't really break it down fully.

One of the biggest complaints of non-Eve players watching videos is that PvP just consists of coloured squares and drop down menus. Perspective is an interesting thing isn't it?

You can just run away and escape here too. There are such things as lock times, player reactions etc, not to mention warping at distance/pings/ewar/ECM drones etc. Being scrambled != automatic death.

The fact you think there are classes in Darkfall proves you've never given it more than a cursory glance. There are no classes, no class items or "gear". Every plays gear is unique in that there are (at present) no limitations to the combinations or specifications of equipment you can use.

You can operate naked in Darkfall, but believe me there's a marked difference between a naked guy and a starter pole-arm (read, 100hp doing 15 damage a swing) to say an Infernal armoured guy lopping at you with a Sithra from the back of a battle mount (read, 400hp doing 60-70 damage a swing).

You quite clearly misread the effect this has on the player economy and "every day" crafting, owing to the fact that you can't harvest safely ANYWHERE. "Safer" != "safe".

Again, you are completely wrong. There are no classes, at all. They simply don't exist in Darkfall. For a brief period the developers considered introducing "Prestige Classes", but they were rapidly cast aside. In Darkfall you skill up by what you do, but there are no classes whatsoever. In theory someone can do anything they want, all at once (a flawed implementation compared to Eves "only the SP relevant to the ship you're in" approach).

There are differences in speed (different armours have different effects, not to mention different mount types (Darkfall is one the only games with effective mass cavalry combat)), agility (see previous comment about armours), movement, aoe crowd control (try rushing a keep gate when there's stacked Wall of Force bubbles blocking the only way in).

There are also almost no items that directly affect abilities barring 4 staff weapons that boost one of the base magic schools (earth/fire/air/water).

As for tactics, there is actually a far greater capacity for tactics and maneuvres than Eve owing to the simple fact there's no radar/overview, no Local, nothing like that. The first you know that your enemy has flanked you successfully is when they're already smashing you in the back. No local, no overview, no name tags or auto targetting, nothing. Only what your own eyes tell you. That > Eve and its system of "well, I can see from a chat window that 90 bad guys have just entered space, now I just need to use my long range scanning device to find them" for enemy discovery and "I'll just choose this enemy from a list" to target him.

Lialem wrote:

The only valid point you've spoken so far. However Darkfall was also initially single shard, but they made the mistake of opening a US server. Biggest mistake they made.

You're making massive assumptions and sweeping statements having never played both games. If you're going to claim knowledge, it's best to be sure you know what you're talking about.

Absolutely loved Air Warrior.

I ended up with quite a few $500.00 or more a month credit card bills while playing that addicting game. Thank god hourly rates for online gaming are a thing of the past. Main reason I wont complain about paying set rate monthly subs the way other people sometimes do.

Back when upgrading a computer to have a total of 1mb of ram was a big deal!

Also when you'd constantly get knocked offline when people called your home phone. :(
