How to tank better on my cane?

Im currently using a hurricane to clean DED4 plexes I'm probing in high sec. The problem is that I can't tank the damage, neither in the unrated, nor in the rated sites (vigil and abandonned mining colony) so I have to warp out once or twice to get to the end.

I'm in minmatar region so I'm facing angels.

My tanking set up is:
large shield extender II x2
invulnerability field II
damage control II
shield extender rigs

I'm using autocannons (have to get around 20km) and AB.

As you can see, I can't skill up my shield skills much more and I doubt moving shield management and shield operation to V would change much.

Am I doing something wrong with my fit?
What can I do beside uping my dps? I plan to get all gunnery skills to IV soon for exemple. Would that be enough? Or is it that I'm not flying correctly?

Your skills sheet is not all that bad. Its not really that, just probably the ship/fit you are using.

Try going for a tankier BC, the cyclone has an extra mid.

Perhaps try a shield boosting cyclone with a cap injector and MWD. 3gyros and a DCU. Resist rigs.

Other than that you could try and different approach with the cane and fit more explosive resist or try to active tank it, an ASB might work if you get resists high enough.

I'd recommend using an armour tank on a Hurricane. Use rat specific hardeners and don't bother with buffer tank.

Swap the invul for an explosive hardener, replace extender rigs with purgers and swap the DC for an SPR

Drop one of the extenders and the invulnerability field for an explosive hardener II and a kenetic hardener II.

This will drop your displayed EHP but you will tank far more Angel damage as they do explosive and kenetic damage. High resists in the rat specific damage types is your best tank for PVE.

Generally though you want an active tank for PVE. Rats do lest damage than player ships, but always the same type.

The way I fit a CANE for PVE is always active tank. For shield I use the rig slots to plug the resist holes and maybe a CCC rig. And a shield booster with either 2 rat specific hardeners, or a boost amp and cap recharger. Both work well.

A Cane can fit a mean armor tank, but you have to give up the damage mods in the lows which is usually a bad trade off for PVE.

As mentioned above, you really need to active tank it. Your current fit is more a PVP buffer fit. Purger rigs and SPR will help passive tank it or you could try a shield booster.. never tried that on a cane, or armor tank it. You coudl always switch to a cyclone and active tank it with a booster as it gets a shield boost bonus and will active shield tank better.

You shield compensation skills are at one. Get those to 4 and that should help.
But as other said, you want to tank your boat to the specific damage that the rats are dealing, in this case Explosive and kinetic.
So have an explosive and kinetic invuln instead of the adaptive one.

Assuming he's running the Invulnerability Fields, those won't actually affect anything. They only apply an increase to resists on deactivated active hardeners, and passive hardeners.

I wasn't aware that mattered in PvE. Especially since your enemies should be dead long before range becomes an issue, and light drones pop NPC frigs easily.

I prefer to stay at 35+ km away when using sniper fit. That way I can fit more gyros and te, don't need the SPR at all. And so I fit an afterburner.

DED 4/10 is mostly frigs and cruisers. You don't need a BC to clear it. Get a rupture, fit AB on it and 650 artillery. Stay at range and pop rats from 30 km. AB Rupture is fast and you can outrun any ship in DED. Frigs die in one volley. Cruiser in 4-5.

Forget numbers, play with ideas, look for solutions.

Your midslots are fine, just swap extender rigs for purgers and remove the DC and something else for 2 shield power relays, so you'll have 2 spr, 2 gyro, 2 TE. Now you have a shieldregen tank and all you need to know is that shield regen peaks at 25-30% so until you drop below 25% you're fine.

Also, you don't have to kill all rats, just kill the faction one with the possible loot drop, bookmark his wreck, warp out and warp to BM 1-2 minutes later.
