I have subscriped till january and would love to play the game..but I can't since my laptop doesn't support shader model 3.0 Oops My desktop pc died..

Is there any way to switch skill in training without the game client...? Would be cool if I could somehow do that while I am trying to save up money for better laptop... Don't want to spend another 500 $ on desktop pc that wont last anyway.. Yes I am poor student..

Any solution...?

@Boris,

Which GPU does the laptop have installed, can you tell us the make and model of the GPU ?

Join Occupy: Reykjavik protest and demand out-of-game access to skill queue. (just see the guy on the corner with the 100s of pages of notepaper...he's the one collecting demands)

Otherwise, find a friend with a suitable PC and ask to load game and install long skill.

It's intel gpu, 945 chipset. Not sure about the gpu, is there some way to check it?

Run dxdiag and check under the display tab. If you run vista or w7 just type dxdiag in the search bar in the start menu and press enter. If you are on xp run search for it.

It says Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family and as chip it says Intel (R) GMA 950.

@Boris,

When the client starts-up, assuming you can get to the startup (logon) screen :-

Press ESC for the setup menu and turn off all effects, turn off HDR, Dpeth Effects, Anti Aliasing disabled, everything graphics-wise off or lowest setting.

If you are not able to get to logon screen, you may have to directly edit the INI file.

you are probably out of luck - tried to run software-based shaders on a GMA 950, didn't get past the login screen (and even that took forever to load).

Maybe you can occasionally set long skills at a friend's home?

The "usual" solution to your issue (it happens quite frequently - people on military deployments in backwater countries often lose eve access for 3-6 months at a time) would be to break the EULA with rgds to account sharing - but don't expect CCP to care if the friend you decide to entrust with your credentials decides not to give back your account(s) when you want them back and don't run around telling everyone about your practice.

But ship spinning is not out yet for a few more hours, and people are already killing there PC over the graphics.

CCP you rock.

Bring back the door.

Direct solution, no. Work around, yes.
Copy your EVE folder into a thumbdrive, run on another computer - anywhere from labs to a friend's machine. Be wary on public computers.
You shouldn't need your personal settings if you're just changing skills, so skip it.

go to settings and edit prefs.ini

try:

antiAliasing=0
loadstationenv=0
lodQuality=1
shaderQuality=1
textureQuality=2

(this is when I put all my settings the lowest)

or for more detail :

Only came up with the methods just mins ago. So if it didnt work, tough luck :/

Doesn't help, it says Outdated graphics card. Well I'll have to wait untill I can buy newer laptop. This is only 3-4 years old and still too old... Sucks..

Quite verbose for someone who actually has nothing to offer. Those settings go directly to the INI file, which I emailed to the Op.

Wanted to give you a heads up on running eve on a laptop. I have a M-Tech running a 9800m GeForce video card, ( not made yesterday but still a decent setup ).

running Incarna on a laptop generates alot of heat and you need to be very aware of keeping it clean - if you aren't taking the back off your notebook , freeing the video card and cleaning it it isn't clean enough. also use a aftermarket fan base.

And don't go to the store leaving Eve running..

All this is for your new Laptop of course, it'd be a shame to burn it up.

No it is impossible to play a game without a computer. This has been the fact since the invention of software, since it is not hardware.

Go to a cybercafé, or get a decent (not expensive)3 year old pc.

if your pc died why not just replace the faulty part?

did the psu die?
was it a faulty motherboard?

u might find replacing a faulty part a cheaper and fast way to get your pc working
