All ships come equipped with standard afterburners

How about this:
"Divert all power to main engines"

Result:
*Capacitor regeneration stops
*All modules go offline/cannot be activated (like when cloaked)
*Shields go offline, regeneration stops
*Warp drive goes offline,
*Targeting systems go offline (as if you were jammed)
*Ship agility decreased: your ship turns like a brick, but can still travel in a straight line
*Ship max speed increased 100%

All the offlined things take 30 seconds to bring back online once you slow your ship back down.

I think all of the above would make it quite useless in combat, but it could be used to make slowboating not so bad.
**Maybe allow afterburners and MWds to still operate (but keep in mind, the cap regen will be gone)

need thermodynamics skill to divert power ~
but then why not allow players to overload everything?
we can already overload modules

divert power to shields: gimp everything else but increase shield recharge
overload power core: gimp everything but increase cap regen

all used outside of combat due to 30 sec 'normalization' timer

/shrug

cool idea, nice to think about, but not absolutely necessary. it somewhat wreaks of WoW where you can sit down and eat some bread between fights and suddenly you're ready to go again.
EVE generally forces you to think more about long term logistics of how to accomplish goals.

as for OP, they're missions, figure out how to fit an AB, it's not difficult :p

3 problems here.

One is this would make ganking easier....and cheaper. For the cost of 1 gank pest, you can run at least 3 bombers. Your half assed siege mode would make this setup very viable since your 3 pest tengu gank setup jsut got muuuuuch cheaper with 3 sb's.

PVE outside of drake/rattler usually means active tank. You are shutting this down. Easy target...you are now one. You are taking away traversal since no agility, toprs hit much better. You cannot attack the bombers, means they won't care about thier paper thin tank. And you giving them 25 seconds (I'll be nice, they are slow or drunk, takes 5 seconds to see you in this pseudo sige mode) to do their thing. Even better, no warp off means they don't need a point. measn double up on the web. 3 bombers, 6 webs and some tp jsut to makes sure you are getting damn near every point of that high alpha torp salvo strike. Now you could counter passive resists. Lets be honest, only the ds ones are worth a damn. And pricey to add to the gank factor of the ship.

Problem 2....you are now riding out the timer. means if you are at the gate faster than the cool down you are wating for it to go away to jump. You replaced crawling with wating on a gate...so what changed exactly? Unless of coourse you like jumping into new rooms with no tank and no mods like tp, etc. If that your thing, go for it.

Final problem. ccp gives ship classes distiinct bonuses. This speed boost is a bonus for a class of ship already. Black ops bs' have this bonus in place already. its per level speed boost is one of its few bonues that make it useful. it travels much faster cloaked (which as we all know shuts down everything else just like your idea). If every ship has that bonus....measn its loses one of its special bonuses. Making it less useful than it already is. Now to make this work you'll have to give BO BS a special bonus only it has to make up for it. Think of one besides warping while cloaked, that idea dies horrible deaths. Ready......go.

Ummm, half assed seige mode?

Ganking?

This was an idea for the PvE lvl 4 missions where you need to slow boat to a gate 50km away in a battleship.

Yep. It used to be worse too. Last time I ran missions I found many had been 'fixed' Those that were not yet fixed, as long as you manage agrro, and know the mission, the order in which to engage the rat groups, you can slow boat your way to the next gate. Often you'll be at the next gate as your dealing with the last few rats. Had the gate been right there to start ... what's the difference time wise? None.

Your answer is Machariel - best level 4 mission ship that I have used - moves through missions the fastest from everything I have tried to use.

202m/s without ab on
591 m/s with ab on

cap stable with everything on but the shield booster but you are generally speed tanking mission anyways so not a problem.

fitting:
7x 800mm Artillery II
1x Nosferatu

1x mission specific main resist
1x mission specific secondary resist
1x Gist B type afterburner
1x shield boost amplifier
1x X large Shield booster

3x tracking enhancer
3x gyros
1x Damage control

2x Large anti-em screen reinforcer
1x Large anti-thermal screen reinforcer

I do not agree with the change/idea.

Some ships have a massive tank while others have speed / and or dps.

You technically are just trying to boost the 'massive tank' ships like a (drake) for example (or bigger ship) and make it a speedy ship.

This way you have to choose, do you want to move slow and hit have a big tank, or move fast and watch your agro and shields.

imho, we should get a prop slot, outside of everything else.
Also a main cannon on every ship.
And since we're here, a point.
