I find it suspicious that digital version of skillbooks don't exist in EVE.

This takes away the risk of transporting skillbooks....

Perhaps if you could find some drawback that adds back in some risk, I could support it. But not as is..

Maybe if you get podded prior to training a skill to level 1, you completely lose that skill??

Whenever I picture skillbooks in eve, I think about the movie MATRIX, where the guy sits in the chair, sleeping while some computer stuff teach him new skills.

the whole 1940's library skillbook thing looks suspicious thought, it does'nt really impact the game for me to much, never REALLY found it important enough to even spit in its direction, let alone how much time it would take CCP to give skillbooks a facelift.

Not really. You already rarely transport your own books. Just affects people trying to make a buck off an npc isk sink.

the buck they make is really small, considering sales volumes and avarage profit margins, high chance that noobies will penny you..

Nerfing this would actually hurt gameplay quality, I believe for the newbies that usually start with books...

Not really sure what context you're talking in here, there are plenty of legitimate ways to earn isk, most people earn next to nothing for transporting skillbooks now. I agree that technically this would probably be a nightmare to fix for what is essentially a tiny grievance.

I too wish to download my piloting skill abilities onto my Kindle Fire 9000.

Perhaps downloading a skillbook would be like downloading a 1 PB file today? It holds so much information, and takes up so much space that it's unfeasible to do so?

I've gathered quite a few skillbooks as loot from player wrecks, and fairly valuable ones to boot! Here's an example, if I've come across many abandoned ships in space (blown up SMA's, ejected pilots, etc).... and finding pilots to get them out and away is often tricky and part of the fun. If we can remotely inject skillbooks, then I can just have my highsec alt contract the skillbook to me in empire space when I'm in deep nullsec or W-Space, inject it, apply SP, and instantly fly off with the ship. I hardly think this is good for the game.

Your remote Skillbook injection essentially removes the need for moving skillbooks around, and I that eliminates to much risk. Add the risk back in some other form, or deal with how things currently are!

Here's the real problem: I keep hearing very non-descriptive words like: "quite a few" and "lots".

This has has no practical meaning for what risk is actually being run and how much ISK is double sunk by those ships exploding and the books dying.

Is quite a few more than 10 times? I've come across maybe a dozen times in the game where I've killed somebody and a book dropped. Usually I end up selling it below NPC just to get rid of it. I think even if 50,000 PVPers had a dozen times where they'd seen skillbooks dropped, and gone back to sell them below, at, or above market orders, I doubt that it made any significant impact on the market. Maybe if somebody was transporting Titan books rather than just taking their extensive jump bridge network back to high-sec and going to pick up and inject the book. Then those (what, 20 times that it has ever occurred?) Mattered. This isn't a risk aversion thing; I can transport books all day and NEVER EVER EVER get killed because I'm not auto piloting. It's just a convenience and common sense thing; it's 1000 years (+?) in the future, I think the technology could handle digital skillbooks. Restrict it to region if it really bugs you that much (keeps people moving around).

And AGAIN; that being said, I recognize that there are some technical difficulties making that a feature in the real world due to legacy coding. It's still an ISK sink. The "Risk" you're describing is human error; which still gets pounded daily between Jita and Amarr/Dodixie with freighter pilots transporting a hundred billion ISK in assets. I don't think skillbooks are a significant part of that gameplay.

honestly i would rather just have all skills accessible all the time. any given toon will need any given skill once in their entire career so why not just deduct the isk price when you start training level one and leave it at that? from a practical perspective this is frankly better than having to go shopping for certain skills in certain regions and buy some skills with LP or do plexes til one spawns etc. most of the time getting a skill in your head is more tedious than challenging. challenge is good, tedium is not. i think dust does a pretty good job with this sort of thing and they should go for that concept i think

If PLEXES can be used remotely, and they're worth way more isk than the vast majority of skill books, then I don't see why this would be a problem.
