Faction Warfare Standings Dead End?

There's something I'm not getting.

I have good standings with all factions.

Now, after Retribution, if I want to "plex" offensively, I will have to kill all the ships in the plex. This will lower standings with that faction and it's allies.

No worries right? I'll get promotions, and that will more than offset the loss.

I plan to "militia hop" when my standings get low, but not too low....

Except, what happens when I "cap out" my promotions? Eventually, I'll reach Divine Commodore/Luminare General/ whatever.

Then, no more promotions.

No more standing raises, only losses.

Then, eventually, I would be locked into two of the factions. (And out of the other factions hisec space too, unless I wanted to grind and do the faction standing repair plan.)

What am I missing?

Nothing, you shouldn't be accepted back into a faction you've left if you went to go fight for their enemies

The problem is there isn't any way to raise standings aside from Cosmos Missions last I checked, so you can only lower them once you've completed those. I haven't really verified it, but I don't think you gain faction standings with FW; all I'm aware you can gain is Corp standings with your FW Missions.

I'm pretty inexperienced in that area, so I could be wrong.

The flaw in you logic as I see it, is assuming running offensive plexes gains you faction standings, and causes you to lose them with the opposing factions, then you will be able to raise them by fighting for the opposing faction. So you do one side and lose the other while raising that one, then switch, perpetually, in a never-ending loop.

Pretty sure that is not how it works however. As far as I know, you can only lose them aside from those 1 run missions.

Edit: This is actually one of the reasons I never chose to do Missions before. I'm doing FW now, and I'll lose Standings, but I'll deal with it I'm sure. The fact I can't gain them back kind of bites though.

Confirmed, aside from Storyline missions which take forever to get in my experience. They also help raise your standings toward a faction with loss to those for another as a side effect. I dumped some ISK into Cosmos and did some Storyline and managed to Balance all Factions above 50, but it was a pain, and I didn't feel like spending the ISK on the higher gain Cosmos.

Can't recall exactly, but I think one was broken at the time, plus some require exceedingly stupid amounts of opposing Faction Tags which cost you more Standings than they gain, especially when completing causes you to take a hit as well. This is why I spent ISK, to avoid the major loss with other Factions and balance out in the positive side of the equation.

Saved time to.

There is but its pretty tedious - you simply run the career mission arcs for the factions you wish to improve standings with. Gets you about 1.5-2% faction standing boost for each arc - military ones take 20-40 minutes if you don't bugger around or do them semi-AFK.

I'm in the process of salvaging a -7.6 Amarr standing (and associated crap Caldari standing) on a character.

By running all twelve of the Amarr/Caldari military/advanced military career arcs the character now has positive unmodified Caldari standings and Amarr is around -2.1 or so. That means I'll have to run some of the non-military career arcs to drag it up from -2.1 which will be more tedious than the military arcs Roll

Still most of the career arcs can be done semi-AFK, so its not too bad.

Once you're back in positive territory then you have the option of buying tags to improve standing, although from what I've seen this is pointless for many of the Amarr datacentre missions as they're bugged - compared to Minmatar/Gallente/Caldari datacentre missions you get less than half the equivalent standing boost to Amarr and more than double the standing hit to Min/Gall.

Oh and if you're building a new FW character then have him run all the career arcs for all the factions, that should get him up to about 2-3 with all the empires (with no real social skills, so probably best to train Social 4 first). From that point you can quickly recover most standing screwups by using tags at a datacentre.

tl;dr you can recover any standings provided you have the will to do so (edit - and a blunt razor blade for those "can't take no more" moments P )

tbh i think any positive faction standing should bar you from that factions enemies space.

Very good trolling, i believed it for a moment.

But then i realized, no one in their right mind would so hilarious to expect to fight for a militia without expecting a loss in relations with the people they fight against. Not even if you spend the last couple month in a hilarious daydream of bathing in billion of ISK and LP, gained through no effort whatsoever, without any risk and a non existent investment in time and money as well as no real requirement in SP.
