Look, it shouldn't be in any way able to be confused for frowning and it certainly shouldn't get a fat arse/gut.

It's the blaster gunboat, looking up at it from your hanger it should be a wall or cliff of as much firepower as is possible to cram into a 'economical' battleship design as possible. There is no excess size or mass to the design, except where it would allow moar damage, thus the front end is a chiseled wedge or pair of horns. If it doesn't look like it could be agile enough to turn and bring a fearsome gundeck to bear on you/sink it's teeth into you should you stray too close, you're doing it wrong.

And while it may be organic it's also a space ship, if the more minor thrusters need to be somewhat away from the main bulk to function efficiently, they're fine being in thin nacelles rather than absorbed into an amorphous blob of a main hull. Equally the underslung drone bay is perfectly fine as is.
Extra parts should look like limbs/organs rather than cancers.

And it certainly shouldn't have bloody sansha/caldari spikes.

In short CCP, bin this bad idea and do some proper work on the caldari hulls. Or a possibly more lightweight dominix, not a fatter Mega.

It's not fatter so much as it has been reduced in 'weight', (as you put it), on the rear section of the ship/model.

No it's just smeared in length and tucked the elbows/legs in. The whole point of the original was clearly up front brutish brawler. It's a fight bull, huge shoulders, head down, charge in, small back limbs.

Edit: it really is/should remain just that, a fighting bull, a space Lamborghini. The styling isn't absurd, but purpose-bred.

The linked redesign looks more like a toy submersible (one I had in fact iirc) that'll rise and sink purely vertically in a wobbly slow but steady manner. Far too even-weighted, compact and just plain rectangular.

I actually like it better than the original. I might think it could be changed a bit conceptually speaking, but it's still much nicer, and that is just a drawing, (a good one without a doubt), rather than a model we are seeing in game. The end result will probably be much nicer with full textures and depth, dimensionally speaking.

I like the sideways structure under hardpoint 7, starship designs ought to have much more mc escher stuff like that. Evidence of cyclotrons is cool too, if only there was a way to make them slowly light up as the guns fire until they're white-hot

Forgive the lack of real effort; I used Paint, and it really doesn't do much. I'd extend that Bridge tower back and down from there, and off the rear of the model as it is now. Sort of a sloping, bridge section with probably a galley looking out off the back.

Here's a few red lines to help; sorry, not much of an artist anymore.

The concept art is much much better than the current model. I also think Mars' efforts above would improve this further.

I've enjoyed reading this thread too Smile

The redesign is nice. Though I will agree with the previous sentiment that the Megathron has been streamlined a bit too much.

My biggest gripe though is the eighth hardpoint. I'd have liked to have seen the structure on which the seventh hardpoint is placed to have been expanded just enough to fit the eighth hardpoint. I think the visual of a 4-2-2 clustered setup is pretty cool. It looks more focused, you know?

How about 5-3?

I'd be perfectly happy with 5-3 if the Kronos weren't around. My reasoning is that the four hardpoints at the front of the Kronos are the perfect place for the four guns.

A nice compromise would be to have a 5-3 setup for the Megathron (and the Navy Megathron and the Vindicator perhaps) and a 4-2-2 or 4-whatever setup for the Kronos. It isn't that bad an idea since T2 ships often do have visual differences from their T1 base.

Add animated texture accents like on Machariel. Maybe some animated structures on bridge.

Noes.
Blaster gunboat is Hyperion. Megathron makes them work better because Hyperion slots layout and bonuses are completely horrible. That tracking bonus sure it's really awesome when you use blasters and T2 long range ammo, but It's meant to make Rails work so much better... if those were not that bad coupled with an horrible tanking mode.

What the heck your trying to do there? -Mega is perfect, at least it was but CCP manages to make it EvEn better, they did the impossible !!!

And noes noes and double noes to that crap organic thing, there's already that ugliest thing ever named Dominix !! I almost puke just thinking about it.

Well, this is pretty neat.

Always good to see new ship models.

I was trying to justify how the current rear limbs of the mega are fine being more concave than convex, and protruding rather then bulbous.

As for Gal being organically styled, if you didn't know this I've got news for you:
Navitas - it was a straight-up fish
Proteus - hammerhead shark/whale/sea dragon
Thorax - **** & ball(s)
Vexor - crustacean
Brutix - look at those flowing shapes, dat chin

Megathron has never been a good looking ship for me. I don't understand what people see in it. That's just me.

The Megathron is the best looking ship model in the game, I think. To me, it's that iconic look of the front end of a Stingray Corvette, smashed onto the back end of a nuclear submarine. Awesome.

Too much pod racer look. And CCP needs to be more practical about its placement of hardpoints. They seem to have this liking for old school pirate broadside salvos. "Arrrr matey knock your wheels off and aim ye cannon to gut her in the bilge..."

Would've preferred the Domi to get a redesign since the Mega was always visually appealing, at least to me.

Yeah, less "space potato" would be cool. The domi looks too front loaded.

I have never owned a megathron but I am appropriately offended by the redesign.
