I thing that the signature Radius of a ship should not be more of its weapons signature Resolution, to allow for penalties and bonuses to matter on equally classed ships.

for example most of the cruisers are at 125 to 150 Sig radius and the weapons at 125 Sig resolution

I am suggesting something like 175 Sig Resolution since all the cruisers get all the way to 200's and more with rigs and shield extenders

this change will decrease the damage output and sum balancing will be need it

I am sure the geniuses @ CCP will figure it out Roll

Well, if you think your sig is to large you may always use armour tanks :P...

But honestly when you compare the turret fire (or beam or projectile cascade) with a gaussian beam (Wikipedia-Link) you could say that the sig is more or less 2 times w_0 (the radius at the focal point) and the falloff is equall to z_r (Rayleigh length, the point were the beam cover twice the area of the focal point).
Because you normally can still hit at your falloff maximum the weapon signature at the falloff is allready Sqrt (2) times the signature at the optimal range, that is equall to 176 m for medium turrets. And that is equall to your proposed idea.

The calculations in EVE are different from a gaussian beam. They ar more like if you hit a relativly not moving target in you optimal range with at least your weapon sig you deal 100 % damage with a probablity of 100 %, if the target now moves or have a smaller sig you deal less damage and have a lower hitting chance. This way the only hting that matter is that the sig of medium turrets is larger then all small vessels. And the destroyers go from 75 m (Thrascher) to 90 m (Cormorant).

EDIT: corrected some mistakes

Sounds like a ot of random stuff to me. What did you do, reverse calculate based on a few parameters? Either that, or you have to work on your technique as far as transferring it to English goes. Shocked
