I'd like to see and example of this GSC shield. System link, OP?

This is hardly of concern.

What a relief that we have your opinion on this!

The OP indicates clearly that the vast majority of the GSCs in this "shield" are not being used, only maintained.

And how exactly do you KNOW they are not being used. You willing to observe a group of them 23/7 for a week ?

edit: and do you REALLY want to get trapped in the semantics, during erstwhile rule-making, of the differences between "using" and "maintaining" ?

I can answer this. I used to steal the ice from them pre-buff to annoy the ice miners even more (they apparently aren't aware of the password function), now they're always empty. The difference between using & maintaining are simple. People that use them, actually use them. The people that maintain them only do so for the purposes of keeping that anti-smartbomb shield up (such as the miners in Kino).

In another thread about convo bombing it was reiterated that we aren't allowed to do anything that induces inordinate lag on players' clients. We were reminded that it's a violation of the EULA to jet cans in excess around jump gates because it induces lag. This is all true and good.

I ask you, have you warped to an ice belt lately? They are literally teeming with these (now obsolete!) GSCs. Strangely, orcas and haulers are always present, taking ore from jetcans. Rare is the occasion a hauler approaches and accesses a GSC.

Yet there they are. What are they there for? For storage? Unlikely, given their obsolescence?

That many cans around a gate would get some investigation. That many cans around a gate could be said to lag clients.

But we ignore it and let ice miners have smartbomb blockers that serve no other conceivable purpose anymore besides:

1) lag

2) griefing gankers

Players in Eve should not be able to exploit old and outdated game mechanics to achieve invulnerability to an entire class of weapon, especially one with the restrictions already observed by the smartbomb.

This is clearly an exploit, and should be treated as such. Why isn't it?

Frak grieving gankers, really you trolling here bro? Why shouldn't people defend themselves against people who are afraid to engage in PvP where they can get shot back?

About lag, you need a considerable amount of cans to create that. If you warp in and your system is not able to handle them cans, buy a Mac, Whoops!Smile I mean, you can petition that. Then a GM will check and depending on his/her machine, if they encounter lag, the cans get removed.

Also, if you think you found an exploit you're not allowed to discuss that here on the forums but should straight away petition your find.

In short if you have a problem in game-> petition it. Rather pointless to bring it here, since we do not have any evidence nor the power to properly investigate your (un)biased claims.

As far as causing lag, that would first have to be demonstrated. It's not really clear as to how many GSCs are involved and how many will cause unreasonable lag.

However, again, miners defending themselves is fine as long as it's not game breaking, which this is. What if GSCs also didn't allow you to activate other weapons? That would be extremely broken, wouldn't it? So why is it acceptable for smartbombs?

Pretty much this. Not reporting a found exploit is as punishable as doing the exploit.

Funny, nobody thought this was a problem in the Convo Bombing exploit thread, even after several ISD posts.

This is the discussion of whether a common practice is actually an exploit. I'm not sure that's unallowed on the forums, to be frank.

I wouldn't call it an exploit, but nevertheless its an extremely flawed mechanic.

And the convo bombing thread is discussing something that despite being extremely disruptive, harassing, and in violation of the EULA and TOS, is not considered an exploit for some unexplained reason.

I'm just saying if you TRULY believe it's an exploit it should be reported.

More asteroids than cans, so whine about the roids causing lag.

Seriously. I've had really, really bad lag in ice fields that have too many Mackinaws.

Using a Mackinaw in an ice field should be an exploit too.

The validity of your comparison is actually debatable. But I'm not going to count all of each, so I'm willing to stipulate.

It's still a broken smartbomb shield in the guise of ancillary mining gear. Roll

Went to Spacemonkey alliance space yesterday. One gate had 54 anchored bubbles on the gate. So, petition or not?
