You probably switched to 'SCOURGE'.

  1. Caldari missile ships 'generally' get a bonus to Scourge ammo which is KINETIC
  2. His Kinetic resist is 2nd lowest.

So, you probably switched TO Kinetic picking up a damage bonus and hitting his weak spot, hence why you noticed much more damage.

Regards

Yes that was it indeed, you're absolutely right. I don't use scourge too much, that's why I sort of forgot about it.

If you stick with running missions in missile ships, you will want to establish which damage type to use and this site is God for telling you it: CLICK HERE.

Though, it's worth bearing in mind that IF you have good ships skills (ie the skill that gives you the extra kinetic damage) and your target ship does NOT have strong Kinetic resists, then it 'can' be worth simply sticking with Kinetic.

If, however, your ship skills are not good (think 3 or below) and/or your target has decent Kinetic resists, then use the ammo that best hits their weakness.

That said........... Kinetic should always be your default 'go to' damage type...... ie it should always be the loaded ammo.

I remember being terribly frustrated the first time I attempted this mission on my first char. He was 17 days old and flying a Caracal. I eventually managed it on about the forth attempt using five Heavy Assault Missile Launchers.

I've since come to understand that PvE content in Eve is crude to say the least and is there for one of three specific reasons.

1. To provide lessons to new pilots
2. To provide Isk as a means to fund other endeavours
3. To raise standing with a particular faction

In this particular case this mission falls clearly into the training catagory and the lesson to learn is how to form a fleet and work together. This was intended but poorly designed to get you to look at the fleeting options. Either get a corpy/friend or shout up in local, form a fleet, see the fleet chat window, maybe get on Eve voice for the first time. Indentify and research what fleet bonus' can give you.

Eve PvE was never intended to be the end game, although the inclusion of Incursions and Sleepers has made it a bit more interesting. These are still primarily designed as Isk generators. Eve is so much more than PvE.

Thrasher / or destroyer. Webifier, fit some buffer and resists, deal 150 dps minimum.

Dagan and his preceding Lieutenant can both be slightly difficult for a lone newbie to handle.
Not so much for 2 people.

I'd been playing for maybe 9/10 days by the time i got that far through the arc.
I was able to tank/aviod hits easily but just couldn't get enough dps, tried all 4 missile types, in the end I asked in local for a hand and it was all over 15 seconds later.

It's almost as if CCP intended people to team up to complete it ...........

This is the best solution. The Dagan mission is meant to teach you that the way forward in EVE is through group interaction, I'm convinced

just a reiteration of everything said here.

Spent 20 minutes at 50% cap, shield tanking and popping off scourge after scourge into him. Got him down to 20% shield at one point, after switching to Mjolnirs, but then he shield boosted all the way back up to 100%

Asked for help in a neighboring system: killed him twice in 10 mins. This mission should guide players towards fleeting up better.

I think it took me nearly a week to kill Dagan the first time. I'm exaggerating of course, but it did take multiple refits and changes in Tactics. I did almost consider fleeting up for him, but I'm a little stubborn and figured if I couldn't do it myself...

If iirc I ended up staying out at about 10km myself to drop the dps from his guns, then had to change guns multiple times, change ammo, tried missiles, etc.. Neuts and NOS don't work on NPC btw. I think my working tactic was something like this:

Warp in and close to ~ 10 km orbit on Dagan, Tank his hits and kill his lackeys, then turn dps on him. I believe I skipped Web as he doesn't really move very fast anyway, and I think I trained a skill to increase my dps while I was working on it.

I'm pretty sure I used AB and a Cruiser, speed-tanking, and dropped a couple Weapon Upgrades and DCU in the Lows and I think a Tracking Computer in the Mids, shield tank probably as that's all I did back then. I really have no idea what I was flying when I beat him, but I know the Thrasher fits I tried just couldn't DPS him.

Passive Regen + Resists and Speed tank worked pretty good for me back then; too bad it hasn't ever worked for PvP. It's much more fun to fly.

If all that fails, just drop a Hurricane or Wolf on him. :) ..or like they said, bring friends.

You can rerun this in 3 months time. There was something satisfying about popping him with a battleship. (I was grinding standings.)

He's soloable in a destroyer or cruiser with long-range weapons, it just takes forever for his tank to crumple. He can be range tanked at between 10 and 20 KM, and he's slightly weaker to explosive damage.

Or an Orca armed with a TP and T2 drones. (I was also grinding standings, but while having some beers ...).

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

I used a Vex, Hammerheads/Hobgoblins (T1's), and med rails with iron or lead ammo. Had a web if he got close, but I ended up not using it (afterburner came in mighty handy, tho).

Kept aggro with the rails, stayed out at around 30 klicks, and let the drones do all the work.

Of course, you need some decent drone skills to pull this off (like Drone 5 , for starters).

Everything in EVE is a trap.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

Last time I did it was with a Firetail, much fun, next time I'm going to try it in a procuror, because I can

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Last time I did him, I was having beating him with the ship I had taken in to do it (I believe it was a punisher?) and after killing his buddies, I switched to a Retribution with nothing but heat sinks, medium pulse lasers, and a prop mod. 200+ DPS, and it still took a while.

Soloed him with Gallente destroyer (Catalyst) with 8 neutron blasters, Antimatter. Orbitting at 1km with AB, he was down in 5min. Down the minions first.

After a couple of false starts, I found him fairly easy to take down.

Thrasher
7 x 200mm AC1 loaded with Fusion S
1 x Limos Rocket launcher loaded with Nova Rockets

Orbited at 1000m with AB and took him down without ever engaging my shield booster. Starts slow but with patience I whittled away his shield and he finally popped.

^^THIS^^ with faction emp ammo and faction explosive light missiles
speed tanked and hammered away (lol for a pretty long time)

I just did this with a new toon like 3 weeks ago... but to be clear it wasnt a cake walk and I tried several loadouts and ammo types, but in the end it came down to orbititng and timing launcher reloads not to conflict with ac reloads (if you give him even a short break on dps you wont break his tank) Oh yea, once i got in close he couldnt hit me so as others have said didnt even need to pulse the shield booster just grind him.

I did this with a new char in a caracal and he died pretty easily, i think you guys are just not packing enough dps. His tank is only about 90 dps and then only if you are unlucky on his rep chance (eventually it will fail).
