sounds like you need a lot of direction.... so I will help out a new player today. First, a corp has to be fun for you. if this does not happen, you will not like it and want to rage quit. Believe me, been there, done that. Focus on what you like to do and find a corp that has a focus on that. There are a few but rare corps that really do it all, so again, make sure you get in one that supports your focus.

Joining a bunch of corps and leaving will put you on a black list for the major corps as this is a sign of indecision OR piracy and makes you a risk to the corps recruiting you. It's ok to do a few, any more than that will raise questions.

Most established corps will ask for API background information. This is normal for security checks and it is a LOT safer than it used to be so you don't really have to worry about it as much. If they ask for API information, this can be a good thing for you as well as most corps that do this tend to keep the people who want to corp gank out.

make sure you are flying with a group in areas of space that you can support. Obviously going to null in only a frigate and expecting to do sites with the team doesn't always work out best for you.

if a corp asks for a security "fee" or asks you to hand over isks, this is a scam. also if they ask to move your stuff, be very careful as this could be a scam as well.
