Title says it all, Im relatively new to eve and have got used to all the controls and gameplay and such, and so I think Im ready to put my skills to good use. Im thinking of trying to get into goonfleet, but Im unsure of whether or not I should. Are they actually a proper army with serious and strategic tactics or are they just trolls? Any advice?

Goonfleet don't recruit ingame. Any advice you get to the contrary will be from a Goon trying to swindle you out of your assets: they'll charge an "application fee" or some such, then when you are "successful" they will offer to courier your ships down to null sec. After you hand over your property, you will not hear from them again.

If you want to join Goonfleet, you'll need to be a member of the Something Awful forums. Go have a look, and decide whether you want to be part of that community. No, I won't link it: if you aren't smart enough to find Something Awful on your own, you don't belong there.

Other organisations do recruit ingame, head over to the Recruitment forum to find out more, or use the ingame recruitment tool.

Fail goon troll

You can't join Goonfleet if you are not on SA.

And your knowledge about Goons gave away you are not a genuine new player.

So flip a coin. If you can't make up your own mind, how is someone who has no idea about your personal preferences, ideology or level of paranoid cynicism going to give you any better advice than a coin?

More often than not you'll make up your mind while the coin is flipping in the air Big smile

No, it's not a good idea. The Goons are notorious for recruitment scamming. They are NOT newbie friendly, despite their claims to the contrary.

If by some strange and bizzare miracle you do get into Goons, you will forever be shunned by the rest of the EvE community. Once you join Goons that's it. You can never leave to join another corp/alliance. You simply cannot be trusted in any other corp/alliance. You might as well just delete your character and start over if you want to leave Goons.

Yeah it really is that bad.

Sorry, what? We've recruited thousands of players into the game and our alliance is entirely structured around ensuring that our newbies have fun and develop their skills. If you have no real clue what we do, please don't opine on the way we operate.

Most of us have no intention of leaving Goonswarm, believe it or not. However, you're wrong - those who do end up parting ways don't really have any trouble getting into a different alliance.

OP, if you do have an SA account that qualifies, the recruitment thread is here: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3447025

My role within Goonfleet is to ensure that our newbies are happy, so once you do join, feel free to drop me a line. If you have questions about Goonfleet, feel free to stop by our in-game channel, GS_Help.

That's some crap.

Recruitment scamming does not target newbies.

Thanks, but is there anyway to get in without an SA account, I can barely afford to keep playing eve let alone pay another £10 (I know its not very much, but borderlands 2 has just released and I need money for that, as well as airsoft :p) maybe you could refer me or something, thanks for your help btw :)

Dirty Wizard wrote:

Nope, this is completely untrue. If anything goons are the most open to newbies, other corps have limited resources in wars, goonswarm need as many ships as possible for mass ganking, and newbies are the best for this as they have enough grasp of the game to know what to do but not enough to fight to get a better role or need better ships, and its not an unfair tactic, anyone that should be able to join a corp should know something about it, and goonswarm are famous for this, so they know what they're getting themselves in for

Honestly, I think if Andski can get me in, I will join, I love the idea of goonswarms tyranid/ zerg tactics and the whole mass army idea, I will probably be more of a soldier than a troller, I like the RP setting of eve and will want to use that but hey, it sounds right for me. Thanks for your help guys

I think a lot of players do a bit of research before playing. I knew of many of the large alliances before signing up for an account.

What qualifies as being newbie friendly if showering newbies with hundreds of millions in free isk, free implants & free fully fit ships does not? I'm really interested to know.

Joining goonwarm was easy for me. A senior commanding officer told me that all i needed was to pay 500 million isk or 1 plex and he would take care of me. He was very nice and helpful. He even sent me a link to where i could buy a plex from. when i told him i did not half any real world money he talked me through using my moms credit card and everything. Thanks "Allyo Plexes"!

And his help did not stop there. so far he has also (AT HIS OWN EXPENSE) moved all my stuff out to goon space for me. TOTALLY FREE! and he did all this for me even though my application has not even finished yet.

Even better he offered me the special GOON ADVANCED PROMOTION option. For only one more plex or 500 milllon isk i will be guaranteed the rank of GOON CORPORAL once i finish my goon training. that means that i will be almost an officer. Pretty cool! he also said once i was in goonspace he would show me the goon secrets for turning isk into real money and that i could pay my mom back before she noticed the money i spent on her card.

My only complaint, and this is MINOR and i am not complaining (as a future goon officer i would never do that) is that they are pretty slow processing applications. I half been sitting here in Jita in my Ibiss for two weeks now and still no word. But thats probably because i think my recruiter is on vacation. hopefully he is back soon.

if anyone is interested in talking to my recruiter and joining i will be happy to put you in touch with him once he gets back in game.

Note that joining SomethingAwful simply to get into goonfleet after 3 months and not actually contributing to the forum is unaccceptable.
Note that joining SomethingAwful, contributing to the forum properly, waiting 3 months, and trying to join Goonfleet is STILL not acceptable if you already "existed" in EVE previous to that time (you'd have to make a new account and lie about your experience).

I don't understand people asking "should i... ?" or "what should i... ?"
Why the hell can't you decide by yourself ? Do you really need that someone tells you what to do ???
It's one thing to ask informations... but asking people what decision you should take, you don't feel that something is wrong ?

Hell, anyone who reads a gaming news site knows the Goons and their reputation. EVE makes news when big things happen, and the Goons tend to draw attention.
