Evealopalous Spam

This website encourages its users to spam referal links to people in and out of game. It promises to give you a cut of the winnings of anyone you recruit with your referer link.

It is impossible to block.

If i block the first person spamming it, i then have to put up with all the people he's recruited. I block them, and they will eventually recruit more people who will spam it.

These referal spamming links are a violation of the EULA and TOS
http://community.eveonline.com/pnp/terms.asp
6. You may not advertise, employ, market, or promote any form of solicitation – including pyramid schemes and chain letters – in the EVE Online game world or on the website.
The website encourages its users to spam referal links with the promise of a 'cut' of the referred person's winnings. The referred person is then presented with the same offer, thus creating an endless cycle of spam which can not be blocked. This is not unlike a chain letter that asks you to "forward to 5 friends and you'll win the lotto tomorrow!". It is also a pyramid scheme.

16. You may not do anything that interferes with the ability of other EVE Online subscribers to enjoy the game or web site in accordance with its rules. This includes, but is not limited to, making inappropriate use of any public channels within the game and/or intentionally creating excessive latency (lag) by dumping cargo containers, corpses or other items in the game world.
The website encourages its users to spam referal links with the promise of a cut of all the referred person's winnings. This promise creates an endless cycle of new players who will spam links to this website, rendering the Block feature useless in this case. This system has rendered the built-in "Ignore" chatroom function useless in this case. The inability to block the website's spam attacks directly interferes with the ability of eveonline subscribers to enjoy the game.

29. You will not encourage others to break these rules or any rules set forth in relation to EVE Online’s game service or web site.
The website actively encourages its users to violate the EULA and TOS by offering in-game currency to its members who are willing to participate in spamming the eveonline client, rendering the "Ignore" function useless, and harassing other players.

2.A: Accounts may not be used for business purposes. Access to the System and playing EVE is intended for your personal entertainment, enjoyment and recreation, and not for corporate, business, commercial or income-seeking activities. Business entities and anyone who is acting for or on behalf of a business or for business purposes may not establish an Account, access the System or play EVE. Accessing the System or using the Game for commercial, business or income-seeking purposes is strictly prohibited
This website is encouraging users to spam referal links in order to generate traffic to a website that serves for-profit ads

6.A (5) You may not submit any content to any chat room or other public forum within the Game that is harassing, abusive, threatening, harmful, obscene, libelous or defamatory, encourages conduct that could constitute a criminal offense or give rise to civil liabilities, or is unlawful in any other way, including without limitation the submission of content that infringes on a third-party’s intellectual property rights.
The website is encouraging its users to spam referal links, which makes it impossible to block the spam. For every person you block, several more sign up and begin spamming their own referal links. This directly harms the enjoyment of the game for other players.

10.C User Content that you cause to be communicated to the System may not (i) violate any statute, rule, regulation or law; (ii) infringe or violate the intellectual property, proprietary, privacy or publicity rights of any third party; (iii) be defamatory, indecent, obscene, child pornographic or harmful to minors; or (iv) contain any viruses, Trojan horses, disabling code, worms, time bombs, "clear GIFs," cancelbots or other computer programming or routines that are intended to, or which in fact, damage, detrimentally interfere with, monitor, intercept or expropriate any data, information, packets or personal information.
The system employed by the website is a 'social worm', much like the emails that require you to "forward to 5 friends and win the lotto tomorrow!". Further, the way in which the website's referal system operates directly interferes with the "ignore" feature of chatrooms, by endlessly providing new vectors of attack.

"War declarations are never officially considered griefing and are not a bannable offense, and it has been repeatedly stated by the developers that the possibility for non-consensual PvP is an intended feature." - CCP

Pyramid schemes that originate from within the game aren't against the rules & the people in question are providing a gambling service using ingame isk. Just ignore it like everyone else does.

The forum "new topic" button is not the "file petition" button.

Ignoring spammers is just like ignoring termite infestation - if you leave them to grow in numbers, they will create the issue.

Many of them also use bots to get their message out, and it's just as annoying as all spambots posting contract scams. CCP should put higher priority on spam, in the end it does hurt the social side of EVE.

I normally wardec the corp belonging the char. But there are few since most are alt chars in NPC corps.

I've just been right click report spamming everytime I see them. In essence that's what they really are.

It seems to be effective as the same offenders are no longer spamming. It took a few days, but the isk spammers finally went away. I highly encourage everyone else to report them too.

Can't block em because they use disposable alts. And it's as annoying as any Jita scammer/spammer.

Do not assume anything above this line was typed by me. Nerf the Truth, it's inconvenient.

I suggest that you file a petition under the Harassment category so that the Game Masters can take a look at this. All of your points are absolutely correct but I can't do much else than agreeing that this is bad business here on the forums.

I am annoyed as much as anyone by Evealopalous, but I have to agree with Mallak Azaria on this one: OP has missed the point of the rules he's citing. You can't use EVE to advertise out-of-game, real-life businesses. For instance, if you own a doughnut shop IRL, you can't spam Jita with links to its website.

You can, however, advertise EVE stuff, such as SOMER Blink, or a scam contract for a Navy Raven, or whatever.

Evealopalous may be a scam, but it's an EVE scam, not a real-life one. Smile

Haven't personally checked out the site, but the OP did say that it has a bunch of ads. Presumably they generate RL income.

Perhaps, but is there a ban on websites with ads?

It's alright guys.
There is no scam here.

We are working to create a better system for everyone that will not create as much spam as you guys have had to deal with

We understand that the spam is annoying and we will be limiting who is allowed to advertise, this allowing you to block just a few people in order to never see our ads again.

The issue arises from the fact that everyone is automatically allowed to refer their friends. They, in turn, use the local channel to advertise their link how they see fit. These are the things that will limit spam.

As for any ad generated revenue, it only goes to support the server and its operational costs.
We will be switching from ads to EVE gtc very soon.

Its not like you look at jita local anyway.

Hasn't slowed down a bit. If I'm in a system with one other person chances are he/she is spamming evewhatever.

The spamming alts are invariably characters in the trial period.... or they're doing a rinse/repeat on the spam with paid accounts - in which case the banstick ought to be getting deployed.

I have NEVER seen anyone spam Evealopoulis who is over a month old. Nor have most of you I bet - and there must be plenty of you who have seen the spam in rookie systems, starter corp chat, default npc corp chat etc etc. Its everywhere.

Stuff like this is why newbies say "**** Eve".
