Rigs for freighters

One of the great things about Eve is being able to customise your ship setup (even badly), and it irks me a little that freighters are completely un-customisable. I don't think they should get mod slots, but 3 rig slots would give them some basic modability.

We don't want them able to bring capital ships into highsec, however, so calculations should be made to reduce their cargohold enough so that even with three cargo rigs they don't pass the 1mil m3 mark. This would mean a reduction in cargohold for baseline freighters, but:
a) Cargo rigs aren't expensive.
b) People who own freighters clearly have money.
c) It's a minor trade-off for the ability to modify the freighter a little.

This way, if you wanted to boost the warp drive speed of a freighter, you can do that. More hitpoints, resists etc, all doable, but technically at the cost of that extra space.

Give them 250 calibration points, so you don't have to reduce their base hold that much.

Make it idiot-proof and someone will make a better idiot.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing after running some numbers Smile

While I like the idea of rigs on freighters, I think I would actually be better if we gave freighters a single low and mid. Both work tho, only if you can make sure that the total cargo does not allow it to transport capitals. Either in amount or some other function.

Just make Freighters fully fittable ships.
This would also fix the endless discussions about having a medium freighter, you could just build one with mods.

I like the idea of making them far more flexible, and this is fine by me so long as it's thought through to make sure having fully-refittable capital ships in highsec doesn't get abused.

Edit: I'd rather not reach too far to begin with - let's do the rigs first and see how it goes Smile

fraighters aint flxible but i would agree to something between transport and full frieghters something with maybe a 250k cargo hold or something

If you dropped a freighers base to that, and then gave it slots like all the other ships, with maxed out cargo you get the same cargo you have now, but with defence slots, you have a much harder to gank freighter instead with the mid level 250k cargo hold instead.
Sounds a good direction to move forward to me, however CCP have indicated they are going to pass over all ships in order, and I imagine the Industrial tiericide will occur before the freighters get looked at, so any changes will be a fair way off for freighters.

No need to get down about when the changes could be made to freighter. But honestly I think the lack of ability for players to fit the freighters is an appalling criminal offense against the Eve Universe. Smile Please, make freighters fit-able...

People suggesting rigs and modules on Freighters and no trolling, flaming,or arguing how imbalanced that would be. Shocked

Good grief.. Let me make up for the lack of calamity here.

Bwaahhhhh!!! No!!

heh..heh.. j/k Smile

Sure, I understand why you'd want it, and I've advocated something for freighters myself for 2 years now. They need it, if not in a fashion that will make them super tanks, or super carriers. A bit of balancing here or there and a few module additions and it'll be fine. Just make them less boring and more interesting, and more importantly, slightly more versatile and less predictable.

I think CCP added some sort of isCapitalShip flag to caps. All they need to do is check this flag on items placed in freighters and prevent the item from being placed in the cargo hold if that flag is set.

Keep the cargo hold as it is, but make it where you cannot equip any mod/rig that expands the hold. On the flip side they could get a bit too beefy for a high sec afk ship.

I'd prefer to add a tug boat ship that, when in fleet with the freighter, increases its warp speed and agility. Give the tug 2 medium weapon slots, a 3rd high for armor/shield transport and normal tanky slots for each race.

This is actually an interesting idea. It would foster more caravan like activities (a la fleets doing fleet things) and would, imo, be better than they "inty alt webs freighter ship" etc.
Could add a new ship hull + skill. Could also make it so that multiple "tugs" have added bonus (stacking penalized of course - perhaps through fleet mechanic).

I'm right behind you
