2 characters same account effective? (mining/pvp?)

So, after paying for the game and end the damn trial thing.
I was thinking if it wasnt more effective to have one guy train up to use a procurer for mining.
Getting myself income to use not to expensive ships.

Since I wanted to pvp and such, hang around in lowsec or even nullsec.
Id figure, is it not better to have another character out there, on the same account?
No need to travel back and forth for mining and things.
Also, if that character takes a securitystatus hit, it shouldnt affect my miner right?

Even thou I cant train 2 characters at the same time on the same account.
I simply just need the procurer training on the first guy.

Probably joining a corp of smaller kind with my pvp guy, to learn the ropes.

This way I should be able to send my alt money from the mining, and allow him to buy ships in nearby stations, or am I missing something? : )

It will work fine until you want use both toons at the same time because you can't be logged on same account twice at the same time.

Of course the question is how much time you need to really get your miner up to an efficiency level high enough to fund your pvp with enough money.

Id stick with 1 toon. :) atleast thats my plan for now.
At the early times, I will probably keep the money coming in rather easy and wrecking small ships of all kinds just to learn what not to do and so on.
Later on, well, who knows.

They're completely separate, they don't share wallet, standing/sec status, corp or anything. As such you can have a main who's doing the low sec thing PVP thing (or anywhere else) and have a second character on there doing the high sec carebearing and perhaps make a third character, train some rudimentary trading skills and make isk that way (while also serving as your buy/sell char in a trade hub). Alts aren't only useful because they can do different things, but also because they can be in different places.

Just know that if you don't do stuff thet gets you in trouble sec status wise you could do it all on one character, saving you some skills that you'll double up on with these character, like capacitor skills, drones, navigation etc. Also, because you can only train one char at a time that means that if you need 3 weeks to train on your alt, your main isn't doing anything for those 3 weeks. Because of that many people simply create alts on a new account (using buddy or power of 2) and then transfer them over to their main account, or they simply buy a character from the bazaar.

Was thinking about going for only 1 character.
But one thing occurred to me then.

If I get more then 900k skillpoints, dying will then leave me with loss of skillpoints, how cheap/expensive is it to maintain a clone?
Will I have to farm extra for that or is the cost not to expensive?

Will probably read unto that also.
Heck, I could probably fit and mine in lowsec instead, and get a bit of both. :)

Guessing since I cant plex myself without paying for it, 1 account is enough for now.
Not to deep into teh game to pay for 2 accounts. ^^

Clones are fairly cheap (at least up to 60+ mil SP, which you're far away from) and prevent your from SP loss, not counting T3 losses. Also, generally, it's very easily to avoid being podkilled unless you end up in a bubble or get smartbombed. so in most non-0.0/WH losses your pod will be fine, if you do it right. Mining in low sec isn't really worth it, the increased effort&danger simply doesn't make sense as long as CCP allows high sec to be mining heaven.

Having alts makes full sense even on the same account, it's very useful to have a character in your main tradehub doing the buying&selling, perhaps you want an alt with locator agents or, in your case, a carebear alt.

Clones are not that expensive. I deathcloned last weekend to move myself, the update of the clone costed me around 3 mil with a char that is close to 20mil SP.

Also as long as your clone is up to date (clone size > actual SP) and you dont loose a Tech3 you wont loose SP.
However if you get podded your new clone will be the default 900k SP one so first thing to do is update it again.

Edit: this is considering without implants. Any implant you had when you got podded will be destroyed

Seeing you 2 on my other annoying newb topics.

Thanks for all the info, really! :)
6 days left for Mining Barge, got cruisers and industrial ships flying and all good.
Trying to gather as much info as I can before I have to pay way more attention to the game.
Even thou the waiting is annoying, it helps me gather info and learn the basics, knowing what I want to do and whatnot.

Mining/Courier and PVP of some sort seems like the most valid target now.
Was about to go exploring/salvage/hack, but not sure if that fits me thou.

And you guys helps a lot with all the info, big thanks.
I will stick around atleast 3 months as it looks like atm. : D hopefully after that I can afford some plex.
