Forget Avatar Resculpting - How about Name Change for PLEX

I'd buy a few if I could have the opportunity to change the name on a couple of my characters. Even if there was a feature in my Employment History to show when it happened and the old name...

Anyone else???

I would suggest posting a proposal in the Assembly Hall forum and see if you can get support from the CSM.

I will leave this thread here for the moment but it may get moved at a later date.

No but I bought a character 3 years ago that has a dumb name...that's really all I'm looking for...the ability to change the name of a purchased toon, which some people agree with, some don't...

The difference is, resculping didn't require much of anything in new code. We could already buy portrait replacements before the avatar change, just now we can use isk to get plex to do it instead of just paying $20.

I'm not against name changes, if a person can be traced. I do think people should have the option of changing their names when they buy a char from the forums, especially since you aren't allowed to pretend you're the previous owner. But you can certainly take the heat for the previous owner using it to be a tool/scammer/whatever. Yes, I know people would wash characters by moving it to another account (costs you 2 plex though:D). Also, I won't buy a char named "Tinkybot5000", but if I could change the name, it wouldn't be such a bad purchase. I could concentrate on the skillpoints.

So long as someone can EASILY find out the accounts previous name im ok with it. We just can't have people erasing there histories for the cost of a plex.

Many excellent ideas as to how one can show previous names, so shouldn't be a problem.

What is a problem, at least for me, is that all those :insertstate:citizenXXXXX who got those lovely names because they are infantile little twats get to "try again" and will probably get around censorship this time around.

In short: If and only if CCP sets down some ground rules with regards to naming and perform their due diligence in enforcing them ..

Good point. But I had a toon changed to "Citizen ####" because ONE person complained about it in like 4 years. And it wasn't even an exceptionally bad name... So I just created another alt with the same old name...

This. I've always been against the name change idea, but I have come up with a compromise in line with the quoted post.

In the employment history, add an entry along these lines:
~~Name was changed from "Hoobyjoob" to "GeeInowhaveacoolname" on 29.09.2012~~

Forced name changes already occur. I had a corp member who received a forced name change after 4 years of playing. My observations: You cannot look up the old name with People & Places, nor can you create hyperlinks to the old name. However, existing hyperlinks to the old name will resolve to the new name. (seems to indicate some sort of link is there)

It would be nice if we could still look-up the old names and see it on the player's "Show Info".

Changing the name would be a removal of consequences for scammers and corp thieves.

Might as well also have PLEX for removing low security status, and let people who were suicide ganked get their ships back with a PLEX too.
