I have no problem with that. This thread is about recycled jita spammers.

Again. You are telling us "how it cannot be done". We are talking about "what can we do for it". You are so negative

Can you prove that those 3d alts are new toons because their previous alts were bots and was banned? Blink btw, chribba linked his exelent site (3000 posts a day is so "not-a-bot") and also pointed that he reported those bots and..... nothing happens... no bans or what ever...... Yes those 3day alts are definitely banned previous toons Lol

Why is Jita spam from non-bots a problem (again, bots get banned for botting)?

So you're proposing a rule that characters under 3 days old cannot be biomassed if they've been blocked? Characters located in Jita cannot be biomassed if they've been blocked? What's your proposed rule that bans people for biomassing their characters due to blocklists and isn't hilariously terrible?

Who are recycling their characters to evade a social consequence, which is just fine per current rules.

I'm saying that it doesn't need to be done. What's wrong with the existence of non-bot Jita spammers? That they're annoying? So's most of the game. That they prey on the stupid? So does most everyone else.

That's not how burdens of proof work. You claim that recycled characters come from non-bots (again, bots aren't particularly relevant to this discussion because they already have a bannable offense under their belt), do you have any evidence of that?

Those people that were reported, how does he know for certain that they're bots? He suspects they're bots, but much as I respect Chribba, his suspicions alone are not conclusive proof. As for the timing, give a real person a button to press every 5 seconds and after a short time they will become almost perfectly regular.

I see Chribba's post as evidence that that particular spammer is not a bot, as I would assume he's been investigated and cleared if he's been able to keep posting.

I would like to see, a real pilot post the same message for hours and hour every single day without messing up the posting timer. Saying that the evidence is that he is not banned is just stupid. So all mining/courier/mission bots that runs around, are not bots because they haven't been banned yet?

So he's no bot until the time he's banned, then he's a bot? Wasn't it a bot all along then?

Sure a regular pilot CAN be very exact in posting timers, but really not for an extensive period of time, it just won't happen, and certainly NOT when it comes to spamming a scam contract - because why in the world would you even need to post so exact if you are there posting by yourself?

Only reason a pilot would spam with such exact posting timers is because it's a macro/bot posting it (yes speculations, but give me a better reason why a real pilot would post exactly every 20s for hours and hours).

tbh I just don't think CCP really cares about spam bots, or maybe even don't have any tools that logs spam like that. So we report someone as a bot, they check his "activity" and find he's not undocking/docking/warping on regular intervals (since he's in station spamming) and closes the case deeming it's not a bot since there's no activity. That's what I think.

If I can get data like this and do analysis on a basic level "assuming" it's a bot based upon the posting timers, I am pretty sure CCP could very easily do that - but like I said, my guess is they don't have any such tools.

Kind of a shame... if you cheat to get to the top, you might get banned. However, if you want to get to the top it's easy to cheat your way up there. Kind of sucks for the rest of us...

It takes more than 1 person to use the function on a given suspected bot before GM's will investigate, otherwise they'd spend all their time investigating false reports. More people need to utilise the report function instead of immediately going for the block function.

If he's been reported multiple times and has been investigated and can still post (unless you collect this data without reporting these people and forwarding the data to CCP?), that indicates to me that the investigation did not show that he's a bot, thus CCP does not think that he is a bot. If that result is a false negative and whether or not CCP needs to improve its investigative tools for finding market and posting bots is a little beyond the scope of this discussion.

If CCP isn't able to detect spam bots then that's a problem. But it's not a problem that can or should be solved by rules focused on the spamming (like the hilarious ban for blocked biomassing suggestion), it's a problem that should be solved by CCP improving their investigative tools.

In other words, if you suspect false negatives, don't try to fix it by adding false positives.

Jita needs more Goons and TESTies to clear local by spamming ladders and star art and whatnot as they did during Burn Jita.

Interestingly, people started complaining and announcing to block.....THEM. Still, those were good times.

Used to go to a supermarket once that was always full of hoons, morons and other associated low-lifes.

Harsh.

Pipa is usually pretty insightful, but even I have to admit it's very likely that CCP just hasn't gotten around to this particular bot yet... I think spam bots are pretty low on the list of priorities for the bot busting team.

Where did I say there weren't any bots in Jita? Where did I say that CCP said there weren't any bots in Jita?

I said that, assuming CCP has cleared that person, that clearance is reasonably strong evidence that he is not a bot. Or close enough that it doesn't matter (if CCP says you're not a bot, you're unlikely to be banned for botting).

If CCP needs improved investigative tools to reduce false negatives, fine.

And again, the botting discussion is kind of moot. Bots are already against the rules, so there's no need for a new rule making them extra-illegal. Nobody's going to argue against better detection and investigative tools.

The discussion of recycled characters is marginally more interesting. Nobody's shown anything to suggest that non-bots would bother recycling characters to avoid blocklists*. Bots certainly recycle characters, but that's not because of block lists, it's because they get banned for, you know, botting and need new characters to keep botting.

*And there's a good argument for the opposite being true, since a block list pretty much represents people who aren't going to fall for the scam. Better yet, some of the people who block you might be the kind who mock scams before blocking the scammer, so once they block you they stop disrupting your scamming.

In Aus a few years ago they bought out a scheme called DO NOT CALL because of the complaints against (many automated) cold calls to home phones for services.

Since I do not believe I have to "opt-out" of anything I tried to get a silent number. I was told I had to pay NOT to have my number listed (which I've always found to be rather odd).

So I trashed the phone company and retain an unlisted mobile number. Haven't had a call for best part of 2 years.

In Jita that's called minimize local, block or go somewhere else.

Way I see it, we're antsing up on a simple fix. This should only be a problem if you have no counter and can't do anything about it.

I need a bot which automatically puts the spammers (I don't mind adding a few real people) on the block list. Duh!

Pipa. There was no such suggestion. A guy said there might be too much alt recycling. You linked a post by a GM that stated excessive recycling of alts was disallowed, and then gave a general guideline that avoiding game mechanics using alt recycling was also not allowed. You draw a specific conclusion ("only for sec status") based on the general guideline, ignoring the first part.

You then created the idea someone had suggested 'banning people who biomass characters on block lists' and begin to argue against it despite the suggestion never having existed.
