Since this is the Features & Ideas board, the real questions are

1) is the subject (suicide ganking) a dev encouraged feature or an exploit?
2) is it working as intended?
3) what (if anything) about this subject should be changed to improve the game?

1. Devs encourage this feature and don't class it as an exploit.
2. It's working as intended.
3. Nothing should be changed. But if there were any changes made, it should make ganking easier.

Also they stated this here.
CSM-CCP meeting 18-20.02.2010 wrote:
The CSM brought up the issue of suicide ganking and feels it is too easy. The main problem is that this
is in effect subsidized by insurance. CCP is aware of the issue and has discussed it at great length in-house. CCP feels it absolutely needs to compensate newbies that attack players by mistake in high-sec.
This may get changed in the future but not in the summer expansion. It was made clear that suicide
ganking is an accepted game mechanic.

Suicide Gnking is a legal mechanic and should stay so.
Insurance Payout for suicide Ganking is a stupid mechanic and should change.
If you dock in a capsule you get a free newbie ship anyway.

Suicide Ganking should stand on it own economics merit, like every other activity in EVE.

Why?

Incorrect. He blew up an enemy, and thus deserved some loot. He lost his ship and thus deserve insurance money. Those are the rules of the game. Don't like the game? Then don't play it.

Yes, but Conesha's misconceptions are so common that they need to be addressed, whether (s)he is a troll or not.

The part of "suicide ganking" that I think is more exploitative is the part where a 2nd char (other player, other acct, whatever) that is NOT part of the kill is the one that goes and loots everything, with no real penalty.

Thats the part that makes it profitable- if it was just one person or group suiciding via concord on a victim, that would be no big deal- they are dead, and need to reship and come back to loot/salvage as well. But when there is a neutral char in a hauler right there that scoops up and goes.... No way to retaliate as if a 10 hour industrial alt matters.

I've been whacked by that type of gank team multiple times over the years, the current Goon action against miners is just bringing lots of attention to the whole hi-sec attack issue.

Rather than citing other games, I'll cite real life history- when an event occurs too often, things change to prevent or mitigate it. They build bigger guns, we build better armor, etc etc. In this case in Eve, the only changes we have is behavior.

Did you know that a properly-setup Orca can have about 230,000 EHP? You can even push EHP above 20,000 on regular T1 haulers. Industrials have many options available to them; they simply choose to ignore them, so that they're able to play victim more authentically. It's a tactic used to blow issues out of proportion, and win concessions from the developers.

Have you seen some suicide-gank killmails? T1 haulers with hundreds of millions worth of loot inside, PLEXes, deadspace gear, and not a single module fit on the entire ship. On autopilot, too. Why should these people be protected?

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

Conesha has a very good point for calling you sick, because if someone else's grief gives you joy, then you're truly sick (insane actually). Please undertsand that I'm not being aggressive here and I mean no disrespect, but you should really get professional help.
This being a game doesn't mean that you can do anything you want without any consequences at all. If people didn't care (yourself included) they just wouldn't be here, it would be a waste of time.

Nah. The real problem is feeling grief over things that happen in a game which are entirely in accordance with the rules and which you have agreed to be subjected to.

Analogy time!

Conesha is basically calling people sick for building hotels when they're playing monopoly.
XXSketchxx, on the other hand, rejoices when someone lands on his hotel in the same game.

Of the two, the latter isn't the sick one…

Sociopathy takes many forms. I suppose this is the 21st century version of torturing small animals. It's a shame such a great game has to be one of the victims of this, but I suppose it was inevitable...

Not sure if serious?

You're saying that playing a game how it's designed and meant to be played, when it gives you pleasure, makes you sick? What is the point of playing a game then, if not for enjoyment?

It's like saying you should never play FPS games, because you're enjoying killing someone with a gun. Utterly ridiculous position to take tbh.

You really do need a break chap. Confusing RL actions with game mechanics and play, is not a healthy sign.

No, it's certainly not. Causing others frustration/annoyance for no other personal gain is definitely not healthy. It's kind of sad, really.

Yes, it's an online interaction tool between human beings. The game just provides a framework for that interaction. How you use it reflects a lot on your personali- Sorry. I was using adult words.
