music library management software

Hey all-

Over the years I've managed to accrue a sizable library of music (104 GB). Unfortunately, after switching between various media players, computers, hard drives, it has managed to become quite messy. I have an unknown number of duplicate files/folders etc.

I would prefer software that I can set the preferences to keep the higher quality duplicate songs, but that's not as much of a priority as I only use headphones, and decent desktop speakers.

If iTunes isn't required, that would be awesome. Brand new computer, want to keep as much Apple bloatware off as I can. I do run Spotify, which I know has a script interface as well.

Thanks!

I have almost twice what you have, and I learned quickly that you have to maintain it carefully. I don't have any suggestions for any kind of automated application/script that would weed stuff out for you. However, using Winamp, you can have it auto-tag all your files, then re-order them alphabetically. This would help you find the duplicates and decide which to keep and which to trash.

My advice is to spend a week or two sifting through all your files and make sure you have separate folders for each artist, and under each of those folders you have separate folders for each album. Once you have this kind of infrastructure, it's much more easily managed.

I've been a music collector for the past three decades, and I have an absolute ton of physical media - Albums, 12" singles, 7" singles, CD's, VHS, CDV, DVD's, etc... All of it is ripped or digitized into either 320 quality .mp3's or lossless .wma's. And I'm pretty vain when it comes to my music collection, so I'm anal about metatags and filenames. Sadly, if you are not anal about it (like me), you're likely to always have a messy digital music collection. It's just too easy to be lazy about it.

I also have a need for software like this and havnt really come across anything yet (admittedly i didnt look really hard either at the moment) that comes up to my list of - wish it would do's....

1) Read available ID Tags and failing parsable ones then make a good stab at the filename
2) Order and list parsable filename duplicates
3) Order and list notn-parsable stuff in size ordered format as likely duplicates will reside side by side
4) Quick scan for abrupt endings and list
5) Quick Scan for possible corruption and list (Pops crackles and absolute corruption)
6) Scan for audible trash - low or high bias etc
7) Tracks on albums listed as Track 10 - Untitled Album etc could be gracenoted perhaps through a reconstruct to CD size - although i think this is out of reach.

Looking into it myself but could take ages, although this kind of functional software outside of the music business is one shot very rarely so i think thats why it doesnt really exist at the moment (or obviously)

If anyone has something that performs even some of the above - please help.

Ah yeh - in case your wondering
8) Be nice to be able to compare, once its all tidy, against your collections to work out the illegals you may own.

Im a rare breed that owns very few pirates but some are there of course and it would be nice to know what. So i can go buy it, or disregard due to rarity or DJ only.
