What might have kept me playing EVE

I actually went through something like this in my first six months, all of 6 months ago. The entry-level missions speak to a vast universe. Piracy! Smuggling! Asteroid mining complexes and deadspace hideouts! Forgotten stargates! Intrigue and proxy wars! And all right under the empires' noses. How awesome is that? Well, it turns out that that's a rhetorical question.

Once you break it down to its core mechanics, EVE is quite small. And with only four employees responsible for content, I don't see any particular way that that will change. According to an interview with the content developers that remain, CCP isn't even thinking of putting backstories on the Show Info panel for planets, for fear that it will somehow, eventually, conflict with someone's battle report.

I suppose it's inevitable that much of the vastness has to be implied. CCP is a small company. I've tried to create the same illusions on an even smaller scale, as a builder on MU*s. What's more concerning than the fact that EVE isn't already so large is that CCP went into full retreat on the possibility of even trying to enlarge the game; time will tell if they're turning back around now.

So show me in a reasoned way my presenting my point of view is insulting to you.

Whatever... you clearly won't, so I give up.

Eve is about the journey.  If you are so focused on making money, that you insist on having the tools to make it be made as autonomous and easy as possible, then you are never going to have as much fun as I will.

Hopefully this will be the last bad thread you ever make.

I hate myself too and everything I do in EvE. I don't feel the need to post about it mostly because I might be mistaken for part of the "septic tank" of a community that is EvE. I only log in because I want to change my market orders to make isk for no apparent reason.

Seriously though.

I miss role players. People laugh at them now, but they made the game seem bigger. You could live in empire even and be a miner, and pretend to be part of a big empire. Roleplaying gives a reason to fight that isn't about moons, Sov, alliances or any of the other stuff people slave over. Its all a pretend world when it comes down to it.

I also miss the lore of EvE not being expanded more. I read all the stuff on evil Sanshas, and Amarr slaver justice and all kinds of other stuff, it all adds to the feeling of a pretend world.

That feeling of immersion is what I miss from when I was a newb, who was proud to have earned 300 million isk as an internet spaceships trader. There are lots of things I miss these days. But I have hope for the future as CCP seems to be doing a good enough job with things. I think DUST is going to bring back some of what EvE has been lacking lately. I hope it gets expanded into its own little attached world so I have something to read about again and pretend to be in a world of internet spaceships again.

I happen to agree with the OP 100%, and I have been in the game for a lot longer (nearly 8 yrs).

I had aspirations of a space exploration/ crew interaction game like Star Flight (1990?)

Star Flight was and still is the ****! I might have to go play that again, now.

One thing I have passively enjoyed is hassling people like the two above me. CCP calls this the "EVE Community". I would much prefer a community that was not the dredges of the gaming universe.

Once the forums were filled with people who wanted to help and were interested in having a genuine conversation about the game. They were prod of PVP exploits and inspired by pilots like kil2 and various others that I will not name, but are now all but forgotten. Now it is just a place where slinging hate and stupidity has become the normal. Over the past few months i have actually been on on ther gaming forums. I have not been on the WOW forum, but I can say that in my searching I have discovered that EVE has some of the worst, most disagreeable, most immature and generally asinine group of trolls of any forum. The mods are not much better. That is also the reason why most of the eve universe no longer bothers to come here.

I am not (nor have I been for a very long time) proud to be part of this septic tank of a community.

Or you can go join them circle jerkers in the like and get liked thread?

Strange, i can completely relate to how the OP Feels, Every day i find fewer and fewer reasons to log in. Other than to change skills. I have tried to shake up my EVE career, but i just cant seem to let go of this game.

So here i am in Limbo for the forseeable future.

With any luck they are taking note of how many people share a similar sentiment as the op, despite the trolls attempts to derail the thread with wildly romanticized fantasies of a life in New Zealand.

I agree with Eternum. He is not being unreasonable or offbase.

As for the trolls assaulting him... Eternum has very skillfully "touched" them in amusingly inappropriate ways.

I think that's more than enough of that. If you want to hurl petty personal insults then I strongly suggest finding a different venue to do so. Thread locked - ISD Type40.
