A brilliant thread, had some laughs reading through it.

I have a wife slightly interesting in computer games. Her favorite is the sims, but ONLY the building part. See has even bought a cheap architectural software recently to be able to build up houses in.

So far I have been unable to get her interested in eve. She does not say no to trying it out herself, but she is rather hesitant to do so. I know that I have but one chance to get her hooked. I though that industry would be the best bet, but she has already stated she does not want to "just build spaceship stuff".

How can I get her into eve? Please help me with some suggestions.

As for getting your wife into EVE try drones, women love "pet races".

Paul, women rule the world... they always have.

Men in their 20's are unaware of this fact, men in their 30's begin to realize it but are in denial... it isn't until you pass into your 40's that you flnally begin to understand and accept the true division of power in the world. Lol

Generally speaking, my wife only logs on if the timing is right for her to catch the beginning of a combat OP. She usually swings into fleet in a Taranis or pure gank fit cruiser/battle cruiser of one type or another, and commences to kill everything in her path. For whatever reason, she usually survives and her killboard stats are fairly remarkable... noticably better than my own in terms of efficiency.

I suggested once that perhaps she might enjoy mining, which earned me a raised eyebrow and a firm "You're kidding, right?".

I never brought it up again.

My wife is currently playing a trial account. She looked over my shoulder enough over the years to finally get the urge to try it out.

She's also played World Of Tanks with me and used to be on the same competition team as I was in America's Army years ago.

We're going on 19 years of marriage. The fun is still healthy, the sex is even better, and I couldn't be happier.

The secret?

1) "Love" was the last reason we got married. Respect, trust, like, and great sex were the primaries.

2) No kids - not now, not ever. We spend our time and money on us, not some self-entitled ingrate who thinks they deserve everything lol!

As new male player (role-playing a female on this account Big smile ), I was able to get my GF to try the trial. How?

Easy, all women like a good challenge. They wouldn't be with use if they didn't. Big smile She wasn't an avid gamer, but was trying different free trials on some games (LotRO, SW:TOR). When I started playing, this obviously didn't look like the others, so she started asking questions. After a few disparaging questions, she finally asked what the attraction is.

'Dear, it's complicated game. Do you really want to try something that obviously looks this hard?'

The client was downloading on her laptop within minutes. She takes her sweet time, the epitome of the casual player, but she does enjoy it.

EvE, it's all about tear managment.

I was on the receiving end of a glare from my girlfriend after I tried to check my mails on EvE gate while she was in bed next to me wearing very little.

I learnt my lesson. Always check eve in secret.

There are two things keeping my wife away:

1) "I don't want to be a spaceship." She has nothing against flying spaceships, but she'll sit out until there's meaningful avatar gameplay. The most interested I've ever seen her was when she walked in and I was in CQ.

2) She's playing Guild Wars 2 with her sister.

Other than that, she loves exploration, and once she's engaged in a problem you really don't want to be between her and the solution.

My husband got me into playing Eve. I resisted for three years though.

Wish I'd started sooner, then I'd be flying some really sweet ships round about now.

After nearly four years of play my wife recently activated an account. The trick? Corp theft and the alliance tournament, more the latter than teh former.

She never took an interest in the game really until the corp theft i pulled a few years back. The story in itself is great but she found the act and the reaction unequivocally hilarious. That year i got her to watch the alliance tournament. We sat back with popcorn and beer for the few weekends while i explained what was goin on in teh fights and filling her in on alliance politics behind various orginizations. It took 3 years of watching the alliance tournament but on the last one she finally decided that she had to play.

She is not a gamer, this is her first game, let alone MMO. I set her up with a reasonable starting budget as her immediate goals were to be able to suicide gank, ransom and perform well in 1v1's. Within a month she has become a valuable fleet member and a decent hunter in lowsec piracy.

Ironically this has began to lead her to more casual things that i find mundane, like production. She has been enjoying the game immensely which I find awesome that we share a similar hobby as opposed to enjoying separate hobbies in the same vicinity.

All in all us current players enjoy the game on vastly different levels. We know that a lot of people who like MMO's don't like this game, so the likelyhood of being shacked up with someone who will enjoy what you do in game is unlikely, let alone enjoy the game itself. But who knows, maybe it will eventually grab her attention and you can have some fun together Big smile

I wonder how many women would secretly enjoy the idea of ruling dozens, hundreds or thousands of men?

My wife saw the commercial for that dumbass WoW expansion with the pandas and thought it looked cool because "Kung Fu Panda" and ****, but she also claims there's no way in hell she'd play WoW in the first place even though I egg her on, so I suppose I can be thankful for that.

I mean, sure, I had to start enjoying American football as a prerequisite for dating her, so I got my teams and **** now, but at least she doesn't ***** about me having an EVE sub and buying random indy games at 1:00 in the morning while drunk on whiskey. Plus, she actually feels guilty for not having a hot meal ready when I get home from work even though she works full time too.

A professional astro-bastard was not available so they sent me.

The games to play a woman short term are different than the ones you play for long term. Its probably the same for EVE. Hello kitty is short term and familiar, long term, I imagine women long for control more than men because it is often denied them by culture. EVE's always been about being somebody I can't quite be in real life. How many closet dominatrix's are out there?
