I mean things are happening, just that in this case they hadn't a direct effect on us yet. Also, EVE universe occours in real time, and people seem to expect see the galaxy change from left to rigth every 6 months. Jeez in RL it can take YEARS for anything to happen, just take a look at how long some wars take until they actually start.

First of all, we are playing a videogame, so the fun and "happening" stuff is, and always should be, compressed on small place or short period of time. That's what makes any game more "fun" and exciting than slow, boring real life (don't get me wrong though, of course RL still wins anyway). Second, I respect your vision, though what I'm saying is that lore and "happenings" are so invisible last two expansions - in compare to the past expansions. And that what makes me a sad panda.

TBH, The current lull kinda reminds me about what happened around Trinity ... there was enough of a lull in the backstory to really make the "war" feeling of Empyrean Age stand out (at least insofar as the news articles, chronicles, etc)...

... then again, I was a complete newb back then, and might've just been missing everything ... Oops

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

I dunno, just write your own chronicles about in-game events. Literally any event in EVE can theoretically be documented on the EVE-Wiki and turned into a narrative.

I too would like to see some sort of massive in game event, but I can see why it cannot be. A massive change in the universe would require a lot of work from CCP, effort better spent rebalancing things, or creating a new way to play the game. A lot of gameplay elements are dependant on the lore. If CONCORD gets blown up, all the systems get set to 0.0. That would be interesting yes, but also cause a lot of problems. Maybe if it was only temporary. Though ideally it would be an ongoing thing that you can choose to participate or not. So I liked reading Empyrean Age, but I would rather have Factional Warfare in place of a in-game Empyrean age war event.

Go play WoW, SWTOR, or STO, then. We don't need to hear your whiny sob story of apparent lack of immagination and overabundancy of pessimism. There is a rich story to EVE (there are 3 full novels) but for the most part it is up to your own initiaive to advance that story. Whether you do so through your actions as a capsuleer or by the power of pen & paper (writing), in the end it is up to you to discover or create story. I do understand part of your complaint, as I would like to see more chronicles, but the dev team is busy working on two big games so I'm thinking we need to be patient before we see more story advancement.

Likewise, If you really think this game isn't for you, you're right! Go play something mindless that holds your hand and tells you everything that is and should be. The key to games is having fun, and if EVE Online doesn't fulfill that role, quit wasting your time and ours with these posts and simply go play something else.

It's not a sob story. I'm a customer who wishes there was a faster paced storyline to keep the universe at large going. I could care less about the individual capsuleer. You're human, you do human things. It's all happened before and it will happen again.

Except you assume my request for more story is me saying Eve isn't for me and I request something mindless and hand holding, when it isn't. I'm asking for more focus on lore. I'd love to dock at a sleeper station, for instance, and try to wake one of those bastards up and see what happens. That, is not mindless. I have plenty of ideas for WHAT I'd like to do, but lore and game code/mechanics do not allow for it.

I, for one, miss the regular fluff news pieces. Sure, they didn't really affect my gaming experience one way or the other, but it was fun to read about an ongoing scandal in an NPC corporation, and wait for the next update to see how it would evolve over the coming days.

The Fiction portal on the wiki s nice and all, but it doesn't have the same impact factor that those news pieces would. Every time my feed would light up in Google Reader, I found myself wondering if an existing thread was about to get a little more tangled, or if a new thread had just been presented for me to pull on.

This. This stuff gave the game so much more depths. Like the breaking stories about Noir ramming the station? While the game was STILL going on? Aw man...

You should read the books. It will probably change your perspective of the game.[/quote]

I too have read the books & would like to see some of this used as epic arc missions

Everything from the books are in fact in the game, you just have to find them.

Edit:

OP, I personally think there is way more than enough stuff to do in Eve already. Eve is a massively multiplayer game after all. Having or joining a good corp or alliance can be one of the most fun and challenging things in Eve. Try getting a one-hundred pilot fleet together for a roam and once successful come back and tell me that Eve is just 'meh'.

But I don't want to PvP, I've done it for years. I've done a lot over the time I've been here...PvP is fun and all but, it's not story or lore to me. Just people bashing pixel heads against each other.

I feel like this is just he calm before the storm. Sure the Story has slowed down a little but it is only a matter of time before things start to get moving again. Cycles man, Cycles, every thing happens in Cycles and this is the down time.

I agree that EVE is what we, as a community, make of it. So it naturally follows that if we want storylines and character progression shouldn't it be up to us to collectively create it? Maybe if as a community we came together in greater numbers and shaped the lore collaboratively (continuing from established lore of course) CCP might take our cues and create further chronicles around the content we as a community provide them.

I admit I still have A LOT of reading to catch up on before I could be any kind of authority on EVE lorecrafting though, and I suspect the majority of the community doesn't even care about lore in the first place so even though I fully agree that EVE is a game ripe for roleplaying and rich in already established lore that should continue to progress, I guess the process from a community perspective wouldn't be without it's complications.

Uh, Faction War is the in-game "Empyrean Age" event.

EVE has history, which is far superior to a story IMO. The story of a video game even an MMO is static for long periods at a time if it ever changes. EVE has had the functional equivalent of at least two in game World Wars as well as espionage and diplomatic collapses among other major events all unfolding in real time. No static story can or will ever compare to that.

Reality has an almost infinite capacity to resist oversimplification.

My gripe with this is it isn't being reported on the EVE website as much anymore. You go to something like TheMittani.com and they have war reports, updates etc. Years ago I remember stuff like Titan deaths being reported, Alliances wars etc all on the EVE home page as "official" news. To me that made the universe a lot more "real" and immerser then a short story written by someone ever could.

I mean I liked a lot of the EVE Chronicles, the two I really liked were one about the Amarrian Royal who ended up have his skin stripped off repeatedly as compensation for torturing his people and the Gallente's version of the FBI capturing a drug dealer and torturing the hell out of him and dumping his body in an alley just to send a message.

All that was good grimdark content, however when you're living in High Sec and you read a news report how a distant capsuleer Alliance has declared war on another one and has started an invasion fleet.... That is basically fiction too. You don't know any of those people (or realise they are shiptoasting idiots who sing abd songs on comms etc.), you're just reading a news story delivered to you via the TV in your Captains Quarters or whatever.

What I'm trying to say is: Real player generated content should be reported as news in game and on the website more, as to anyone not in nullsec it basically is fiction.

I can see how the lack of a new novel, or continued chronicles can make one feel that the story of EVE is not "advancing". Honestly, for a game to have been out for 10+ years and there are only 3 novels is kind of lacking. EVE deserves to have full, multi media support... More novels; anthologies of the chronicles in hard copy; comic books; and maybe even movies (animated or live actors).

I've heard the number of subscribers for EVE is about 350 - 400,000. An EVE based movie would, minimally, ten times that amount just from its player base.
