A wormhole closed on me! help!

Luckily I scanned the wormhole until I found the exit into low-sec so I can get out of the wormhole. The problem is that I was mining inside the wormhole and had a ton a rare jetcans I was hauling back. Now I'm in 0.1 space with nothing more than a badger and level 1 mining laser. It's 30 jumps to get home.

Here is my questions:

  1. Wormholes can close on you!?!
  2. When I exit into low-sec space the wormhole is still open on this end. Since the low-sec end is closed does that mean this worm-hole now leads to nowhere?
  3. Any tips on how to get back safely?

1. Yes wormholes can close on you. Next time check the info on the wormhole before jumping in.
2. It still leads back to the wormhole system you were in.
3. Carefully.

Thanks for the advice. I made it back. There were a few gates that had suspicious "Wanted" pilots and one looks as if she jumped in after me but I made it. I just manually warped to 0m for every warp gate.

That was my first trip outside of high-sec lol.

1 & 2. If the wormhole is still there, then it's still open. Wormholes have a life span of between 16 and 24 hours. You get a warning of this as the display "This wormhole is approaching it's end of life" when they are in their last 4hrs of life. At this point you could have anywhere between 1 second and 4hrs. This is why you check info on everyhole you go in.

If when you went it it was fine and an hour after mining it's EOL (end of life) then you know you have somewhere between 3-4hrs.

3. Getting back safely will depend on where you are getting back from. If it's lowsec then warping gate to gate is your only real option as you can not use bubbles in lowsec space (do you know what bubbles are?). However warping to a gate at zero isn't the issue, it's initiating warp that can have problems. If you are in a hauler/mining ship of some form, then it's going to be slow to align. Therefore you run the risk of a fast locker catching you.

If it's null sec, then you want to try and warp to celestials close to gates (within 14au) to try and Dscan the gate to ensure there are no bubbles on it. If there are then you might want to wait it out or risk if there is noone on Dscan. Only problem with this is that you are slow and there is likely a cloaky on the gate. AND... there could be a bubble on the other side too.

The other option you have if you have a probe on is to scan yourself back into wormhole space and look for a better exit. If you use one of the wormhole info websites it will tell you what static your current wormhole should have. Though, there could be wanding holes (not statics) and incoming holes (K162's).

You've gotten a taste of the excitement and the rush of life outside of Hisec. There's more where that came from :)

Do a bit of research on wormholes and w-space in general -- there's a lot of information out there -- and consider coming back. Learn how to use d-scan and combat probes to find things quickly, and skill up to fly a Covert Ops frigate if you haven't already.

There is danger here, but there is also much more. Sometimes you'll be rolling in ISK, sometimes you'll need to clean the brown stains from your pod, and sometimes you'll be "blessed" with a brand new pod :)

Keep trying it, find a corp with friendly and helpful people, and you'll never want to go anywhere else.

Yeah, not so much. As old as my character is i'm a complete noob. When I first started the account I died with no insurance and no way to get into a decent ship. I kept coming back because I really want to get into the game but mostly all I did was skills. The good news is I have tons of skills... now I have to learn to use them.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to have to look up navigation tips like bubbles and Dscans. I actually didn't have probes with me because I went through the wormhole with a heron to do all my scanning, then I mined with another ship and used the badger strictly to haul my jetcans.

You lucky, lucky bastard.

Everything in EVE is a trap.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

Lucky is right. I was hoping to find another entertaining story about some poor sap who had to self destruct 'cause he didn't bring a scanner in with him

Well, I did lose 2-3 hours of rare minerals. What I got back was ~8mil Isk worth.... I probably only had 1/10 of what was jett canned. I'm just glad I survived lol.

So you see Badger, alone, churning rock with a mining laser in a wormhole grav. Bait?

Maybe not.

I would assume (and my assumption is correct fro a later post of yours) that you found the wormhole from hi sec.

If you were able to get BACK INTO the wormhole from lowsec, you SHOULD have been able to scan down another exit to hisec.

Now, this s coming from a bigger noob than you, so please do not rely on my comments!

Not necessarily.

It could have been a WH with a static lowsec. And he happened to find it via a random HS WH (like an X702)

So for clarity... I have two accounts. A miner and this character. I used heron to look for hidden mineral fields and ran across the wormhole in 0.6 space. I went in the worm hole and scanned it to find minerals inside..... I then found the exit. After bookmarking all the major points I gave the locations to my miner who was jetcanning all the minerals. When I was done I was using my miner + this character (switched to a badger) to get my jetcans back to highsec. I didn't mine or scan with my badger :-)

The wormhole closed after my badger was in collecting more jetcans but luckily while my miner was at home base. Since I had the bookmark to the exit already my only way out was lowsec (0.1).
