I'm just a little nobody in the world of EVE. But I care deeply and personally about this as everyone does. I found this thread to be something as close to a guest/memory book that I could find to express my sorrow and sadness for Vile rat's friends and EVE family. I can't even imagine...my thoughts are with you guys.

RIP Sean Smith "Vile Rat"

As I have never seen and or been confronted this Man in all my years in EVE, I can asure you he was no doubt a force to be reconed with. I have had the privaledge over my 22 years of US Naval service to meet and work with many of those with Sean's background. They were good people who were on a mission to protect the USA and its beliefs to the end. A man who did so without even a secound thought. God Bless him for giving all and may we all know that we were in the presence of a Hero who just accepted his role in life as nothing other than normal.

"Copy / paste my post from UK forums"

Yes, I find it really sad for his wife, children and the EVE community. As a father, husband, ex military and EVE player its hard not to feel a connection with him. Having been with EVE since 03, I have known a few people that have passed away (one UK member that had a blog detailing his last few months in hospital) and its always sad.

To me, its strange that the people that leave us seem the strongest. Its those people that get on a PC for a few minutes per day to spend time with us on his final days (then to have his family finish the blog), or the one that has had so much influence on the game we share, just to have him ripped away from us on the "world stage."

While having never spoken to him directly, I do remember hearing his name mentioned many times on TS during my time with BOB in 2007/08.

It also makes me very proud to be part of EVE when you see such support from our game community. While I try to have fun at home, there is others that try to have fun with us, from very hostile places.

It is a shame that this good man, father was taken away, and he will be missed.

The loss of an inspiring individual of whom I haven't had the honor of meeting still feels as a loss of one of our own.

My condolences to his family, friends and the community of Eve as a whole. He will be missed.

Rest In Peace

Never met him, but I've heard his name pop up here and there.

Only found out he'd been a victim of the violence in Benghazi a couple of hours ago.

RIP, and I hope they nailed the ****** who killed you.

I have had to moderate some more posts in this thread, something I hoped I would not have to do.

This is the one and only warning I will give.

Do not come in to this thread if your intent is to troll, smack talk, berate or in any way disrespect a fallen member of this community. Personal insults and petty squabbles are to be kept out of here, and if they are the only things you can think to say, then I strongly suggest you do not post at all. Such behaviour will not be tolerated and will lead to official warnings and/or revocations of forum access rights.

Now that that unpleasantness is dealt with, I shall leave you in peace.

Ethereal Dawn owes vile rat a deep debt, Without him ED simply wouldn't exist and several of the outposts in ER have been renamed in tribute to him.
Eve is def poorer for the loss of vile rat and his family has my deepest sympathies.

One thing would suggest CCP and the devs consider doing is turn his avatar into a perm npc within eve as a tribute to him, maybe as a new head of one of the pirate factions? or even head of a new faction within eve.

The banner needs to be changed to "Rest in Peace", not "Rest in Piece".
